I thought I had another annoying, stupid crisis this weekend, but I took care of it. ^_____^ I had a tape in one of my vcrs and suddenly, it wouldn't eject. The vcr acted like the tape was jammed in there. So I'm like AHHHHHH because this very same thing happened about a year ago, and I cannot afford another new vcr at all right now. VCR repair guys always want so much damn money to fix what are now cheap pieces of equipment. I mean, in the past, when a vcr cost $500, it was worth it to get it fixed. Now, the repair often costs more than the vcr! So it's not worth it. I started freaking out because I need all my vcrs, and here I had another one that was out of commission. Then the thought occurred to me that maybe I could fix it myself. I know there are ways, I just had to find out how.

So, I looked around on the internet and found www.fixer.com. Once I figured out who made this vcr, it was easy! The diagrams and directions fit perfectly, and the tape came out undamaged!! That made me soooo happy, because the tape had some important stuff on it. Then, I plugged the vcr back in and tried it, and it was FINE!! It's working like nothing happened. So I guess it was kind of like when paper gets jammed in a copier--I had a tape jam. :D The vcr was probably just tired (this vcr has a tendency to act up when it's been used for more than a few hours) and so got all jammed up and needed a little help. Wee! Crisis averted!

(If you're wondering at all why this would be a crisis, it's because I trade tapes over the internet. People have already paid me for copies of tapes, so I need to be able to make those copies, right?)

This makes me wonder if the vcr from last year really had anything wrong with it. The repair guys got the tape out, and then said the vcr needed $75 worth of repairs. When I said that was too much, and that I was taking the vcr home, the guy kinda panicked, like, "What?!" I never tried the vcr again because I didn't want anymore tapes to get stuck in it. Maybe it was never broken! Maybe he was just trying to make himself some extra money off my ignorance of vcrs. Even that website I used said that repairmen will often charge you a lot of money for simple things where no real repair was involved. Like, some problems simply require that you unplug the vcr for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. The vcr resets itself and you're good. They're not going to tell you that's all they did, unless they're really honest, which seems to be rare. So, I'm going to test that vcr too!
