Mar. 4th, 2004 07:51 pmI started putting "Sailormoon Dark" on fanfiction.net because I figured what the hell, I've got other stories up there now, might as well, and it's neat how you reach whole new groups of people. Like, there are people who don't look for fics anywhere else but big archive sites like ff.net. (And vice versa.) As I found out, there are people out there who didn't figure out where to go after I lost dementedinc.com; now they know where my story went. ^_^
Anyway, I got some reviews, and this one tickled me:
Wow. You know, I think this fic is the most complicated one I've ever read! How could you have possibly thought this up?!? O.O Anyway, it's really good, just not my type of fic. Too many new characters and such. My head is practically overflowing with all this info! ^_^; Good luck, but I won't be reading it anymore!
Bahahahaha! Do I confound you? It's an illuuuuusion, presto! Abracadabra! Wooooo, ooooooh... ::flashy hand motions:: Booya, rabbit from a hat! :D
Seriously, I TOTALLY agree that there are too many characters, and it drives me nuts sometimes trying to keep up with all of them. XD I wish I had more control over the fic, but I dunno, I don't know what it's like for other writers. For me, I have little control over what happens in my stories. I am the stenographer; I just write down what they tell me. What the characters tell me, and what The Narrator tells me. I just make sense of it all. Basically, that's why I'm doing this as a fanfic, so I can use all these tons of ideas and it's still not pro publishing. If I was going to do something with the ideas in SM Dark professionally, I would break it up into like 20 different books. And of course, strip all the strictly SM stuff out of it.
I respect and understand that there are different audiences for different fics; some people don't like fics packed with characters (and that are epic in length!). I just found it amusing that the reviewer was so @_@ about my story; the mental picture of this girl sitting there with googly eyes mumbling, "Soooo many characters... can't keep up..." amuses me. XD
I was thinking about what one reader said to me not too long ago about SM Dark, that it was "like a really good soap" about anime magical girls. That is truly the best description of what it is - a soap. It's like a daily soap opera; all the stuff that happens in it would fill up many days and weeks. Also, I have gotten that question before - how do you/did you come up with all this stuff? The answer is, I don't know! I just live my life each day, and I see something, or listen to a song, and PIFF! The ideas pop in there. I write them down, and go from there. Try to make sense of them.
Anyway, tomorrow starts my crazy weekend, then my sister has decided to have her back surgery on Monday instead of putting it off until summer. It's gonna be a cah-wazy few days!
