Jun. 1st, 2012 10:12 pmI've heard that Fanfiction.net is cracking down on stories that have graphic sex in them by deleting them off the site. They haven't gotten to mine yet, and I have no idea if/when they will. I would think it would take their watchdogs a long, long time to read through every story in the M category. I'm conflicted over this because I like having all my fanfic on FF.net as well as everywhere else; I do get some nice reviews and feedback through subscriptions. But I just can't bare to edit most of them to make them FF.net compliant. It doesn't feel right.
For one thing, some of those stories are so full of sex, an edited version would be like this:
Paul came into the room where Dean was lounging on the couch. He
The End
So what's the point?
What I can't decide is, what should I do? Take the sex stories down? (Which would make any series incomplete.) Direct people to my website for them? Just hope the watchdogs don't ever get to me? Are they only looking through the M-rated stories, so if I change the ratings, they won't discover my stories? Another reason I like to put my stuff up on FF.net is so no one else can steal them and post them there, which has happened before. I really don't want to take them down. Arrrrrrgh.
Any advice? Has anyone heard anything about ways to get around the watchdogs?
Edit: I've learned through talking to the person who alerted me to this that FF.net is using bots to search summaries for dirty and violent words, and then deleting the stories. WTfuckingF??? So if you have "fuck" or "shit" or "pussy" in your summary, your story (and possibly your account) gets deleted. This doesn't affect me, I don't think, because I don't have any words like that in my summaries, except for maybe a violent word here and there. One person posted on tumbler that their story was deleted because they had "blood" and "kill" in the summary, which just makes me go WHAAAAAAAAAAAT??? Reminds me of the stupidity of Strikethroughgate.
