Happy Birthday Mooserat!

...but I am sick of being mistaken for one. I was born right here in Dallas, am proud of it, am proud to be Southern. But my father being from the east coast bastardized my Southern accent, it seems. You don't get much of one growing up in Richardson because it's a suburb, a white bread generic one. (Whereas, if you grow up in suburbs like Desoto, you get a thick country accent.) So I guess my dad was able to really affect my accent. Another person I talked to on the phones this week said something to the effect of, "You're not a native Texan though." YES I am. He goes, "You sound northern." Blargh. No, I don't sound very Southern, though I can hear it at times, especially when I say "i"s, especially in numbers. "Nine" becomes "nahine" at times. My mom had this adorable Dallas-style Southern accent; I have a tape of her talking with me and my sibs when I was two.
Anyway, native Texan here. Proud of it. Thank you. ::bow:: No one likes being mistaken for something they're not.
