As I've been catching up with Jensen's past role on "Dark Angel," I've just started on season 4 of "Smallville" also. I read a comment somewhere made by a Jensen fan about how Lana Lange sucks the personality out of her boyfriends, and after seeing the first four eps of this season, I believe it. Jensen played Lana's boyfriend, Jason Teague, for a season, and I just don't understand how one man can be so mind-numblingly good looking and so boring at the same time. Don't get me wrong, Jensen does his best with what he was given to work with, but so far, his character only exists to be Lana's love interest - that's it. Kissing Lana and coaching football. The kissing is hot; Jensen's good with the "I'm so in love with yoooou" kisses. But beyond that, I'm like, "Aw, that was a romantic thing to do... WHY DON'T I CARE?!"
I think the problem is that "Smallville" is sort of a dumb show. They've had a few good plots on there, but the majority of it just makes me roll my eyes. Not really a superhero person. The only character I really like is Lois Lane. She's got spunk, that one! :D But anyway, that puts a damper on the whole show for me, that I can't get into the basic premise.
It would just be nice if they gave Jason something else to do besides bring Lana flowers. How many times can you watch a man perform a romantic gesture and still be entertained by it? Hey dude, the girl wrote you a very vague note and then left the country without you. Time to date other people.
I'm surprised that I'm not more into this, because the teacher/student aspect of their relationship is scandalous, and scandal often appeals to my gossipy side. But, still boring!
With all its faults, "Dark Angel" wins for having a better character played by Jensen. Alec has about ten buckets of personality on Jason at this point. Probably because he has his own identity beyond being in love with a particular person.
