Tangent

This was supposed to be a small reply to someone else's post on a "Supernatural" comm and it turned into me going off on a tangent. So I thought I should post it on my journal. These are all my current feelings about the casting sides for the first two episodes of season two of "Supernatural." DO NOT READ WHAT'S BEHIND THE CUT IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED FOR SEASON TWO.

Let it be known that I would still watch this show no matter what they did with it for Jensen/Dean. He is one of the best fictional characters I have ever encountered; I just love him. He could sit there and read the phone book and rag on the names for 45 minutes and I'd still watch.

But honestly, I'm getting far more tired of reading people whining and bitching about these two new female characters than I am about reading about them. No, I don't like the sound of them so far either, BUT, there was very, very little in the sides. CALM DOWN people, jesus. Be afraid, be active, but calm the hell down. Alex annoyed me less than some of the fan reaction. Some of it is downright sexist. And just for the record, I am far from a "tweenie." Got twenty years on them.

My attitude is probably influenced by the fact that I was never really impressed much with the writing, and this doesn't seem so different. I love the family interaction between Dean and Sam very often, but the supernatural stuff is rarely written to my liking. Also, I have officially gotten sick of guessing which Winchester will be attacked this week. It gets old. Dean and Sam would be in a mental hospital by this time from almost getting killed. That takes a toll on a person. I'd like to see some new characters to worry about. People for Sam and Dean to angst over besides John. If they are written well and casted well (I'm DREAMING), I'm all for them. I'd just rather they not be female hunters. Don't know why, I just don't like it. I want someone who is completely unaware of the real existence of demons. Or Paul Callan. (Now I'm REALLY dreaming.)

Like, Sarah. Her reaction to ghosts and haunted paintings was very refreshing.

Not that I'm opposed to some female Calebs. I just want them to be very careful with the ass-kicking females. I usually love ass-kicking females, but even "Buffy" and "Xena" jumped the shark.

I think John will survive the crash only to be killed by The Demon in exchange for Dean's life. Another plot twist I want to stab in the eye with a fork. Don't like it, but it looks likely. I'd much rather kill that plot twist than the ass-kicking chicks. And killer clowns, okay, I LOVE THAT. SPORFFLE.

Alright, end of what I posted before. I'd like to add some thoughts. I believe the reason why I'd like to see some more Sarah-like characters, and see how Sam and Dean deal with them, is because the whole female ass-kicker who knows all about demons has been done and done and done. I think a female who deals more with reality would be refreshing for the Winchesters because it's the only way they can stay sane. They need a taste of normalcy now and then. Though, Dean, not as much. Dean needs his brother and father around him to stay sane. Either one of them, or both of them. I'm not so sure he needs a "normal" influence around for that. Dean just doesn't want to be alone. That's why he picked up Sammy from Stanford in the first place. His father ran off and left him and he was lonely. :( Poor baby. But, Sam, he needs normal. He went off to college to find normal. John needs some normal to show him all he's missing by being so obsessed with Ceiling Demon.

Anyway, it would be nice to see a little happy for the Winchesters now and then. And I'd like to see the development of a female hunter from the very beginning, not just drop in the middle/end of her development. Yes, that's what fanfic is for, apparently.

Speaking of that, I have a female cousin for Sam and Dean who will be appearing in a story or two, and I've had some trouble coming up with a name for her because I wanted something that sounded good with Winchester. (Child of John's brother.) I HAD finally settled on Alexa, kinda sorta, then they went and named this female hunter that everyone hates Alex. *sigh* It's probably better. I already had a character named Alexis in the "Miracles" universe that I was going to revisit sometime, so it's better not to have another chara with a similar name. I believe I've settled on the name Brandy for her. Yeah, I know that sounds Mary Sue-ish to the untrained eye, but you didn't grow up in Texas, apparently. They say write what you know. So I've got John's brother living and raising his family in Texas. I knew about four Brandys growing up throughout school, no joke. There was *always* a Brandy around. It's a fairly popular name in areas of the South. I wanted a name that sounded Southern, and I feel I got it this time.

Edit: Another comment I made to a comment that I thought was sort of amusing...

The female hunters need to be recurring because Jensen and Jared are TIRED. :D They're in practically every scene. They want a break. I certainly don't want them to become burned out and leave the show.

I will remain optimistic. The cop from "The Benders" was well cast. Sarah was reasonably cast. I adored Hailey. I could deal with Emily. Amanda the flight attendant was fine. The faith healer's wife was great. Meg grew on me. Missy Bender effing rocked. I'm deliberately avoiding mentioning the two chicks from "Angel" because I never liked the show much. ;)

Anyway, on another topic. I'm a fiend for "Little House on the Prairie." Love that show, LOVE IT. Just a good soap set in prairie times. I'm watching it this afternoon and there's a scene where a character calls for a cab, and I actually expected A CAR to drive up. XD Then a horse and buggie drives up. I burst out laughing.
