"Ring" fic yapping

meredevachon has been posing a lot of questions about her NaNo story and asking readers to answer them, and it got me thinking how helpful this would be for some stuff I've been considering regarding my "Ring" fic. Mere, it is safe for you to read what's under the cut. I kept all the really juicy spoilers out of it.
This is all yacking about the "Ring" movies and how they apply to my fanfic. Okay, first I need to organize my thoughts.
Watching the cursed videotape:
The tape must be watched from beginning to end in order for you to be cursed. Significant interruption of your watching experience causes the curse to lose its power.(Ringu 2)
Covering your eyes and only listening to the tape does not curse you. The tape must be watched. (Ring Two)
I have my own opinions on the following quandries, but I'd like some outside opinions just to make sure that my ideas are gelling. What do you think about...
1. What if a person glanced away from the tape while watching it? Would this be enough to save them, or does significant interruption need to happen in order for you to be saved? What if you were really distracted while the tape was playing? Would you be cursed?
2. Does viewing still pictures (screencaps) from the videotape do anything to you?
3. In "Ring Two," Emily did not watch the tape - she covered her eyes. As one could tell from the final result, this did not curse/kill her. But would she be cursed in another way? Would Samara be offended by her actions and come after her in some other manner?
The following could be a spoiler for my fanfic, if I decide to do it. The muses want this very badly, and although I think it would be really sad, I am inclined to agree with them that it would be a cool plot twist. Before the end of my series, I would like to kill off Rachel Keller. But I'm not going to do it unless I can think of something really awesome, where she would go out in a way befitting such an important character. Reiko got a really lame death in "Ringu 2." The death did not befit her status as an important main character. Her death in the alternate sequel "Rasen" was at least cool because it showed the grey nature of Sadako (which also fits Samara) - she was a being to be pitied, but never underestimated. Once she was angered and left unsatisfied, she went after Reiko AND HER YOUNG SON. It just illustrated how Sadako, no matter how frail and sweet she seemed in "Ringu 0," did in the end become a vicious, wrathful killer. SO, if Rachel is going to die, it must be in a way that honors her character status. I currently have very unformed ideas. It may come to me later. I don't know. But I wanted to put that out there incase someone had an idea or request or something they'd like to see. I'm actually quite surprised that Rachel survived "Ring Two." It feels like her days are numbered in the Ring world. She may die in the big finale. It's all up in the air right now. I just know if I can make it happen, it needs to happen.
If you do reply to this entry, please leave out any spoilers dealing with how a person survives the videotape curse and how Samara and Sadako finally claim their victims. At least one person who will probably read this has never seen the movies, and I'd like to surprise her if I can. If you do put up a reply that spoils for these things, be advised I will probably delete it. And speaking of the Ring world, WHAT HAPPENED TO THERINGWORLD.COM?!?! I checked the last two nights and it's GOOOOOOOOONE!!! THE BEST Ringu/Ring site ever and it's GONE!! :((((((( man that sucks. I hope it's just a temporary problem and the site comes back.
