Just when he gets interesting...
Nov. 18th, 2006 12:47 amI finally had a chance to finish watching Jensen's role on "Smallville." The following will contain spoilers.
Just when Jason Teague gets interesting... BOOSH! smooshed by a meteor.
First of all, Lana sucked all the personality out of him and he bored me in the beginning. That is a major feat in itself, to be able to make any character played by Jensen dull. I thought that I would love it since it was a scandalous teacher/student relationship and they made a very attractive couple. But it was like they just had the same conversations over and over. I couldn't have been more sick of Lana's self-righteous speeches about lies when she herself LEFT THE COUNTRY instead of telling Jason what was going on with her. Hypocrite. Jason got a tiny amount of personality points in the scene where Lana thought what he wanted from her was sex, and she offers herself to him, and he stops her from unbuttoning her shirt. He just can't do it to her because sex has nothing to do with what he wants at that moment. It was just so sweet.
Then at some point when I blinked, Jason turned evil. I am so sick, because he became ten times more interesting and attractive to me when they revealed he was evil. In real life, I do not want an evil boyfriend who murders people in order to get extraterrestrial stones. I just want a fun boyfriend with a wicked streak who does not murder anybody. But on tv, having some very dangerous grey areas is SO sexy. The only thing that sort of turned me off about it was Jason was a major mama's boy. I do not like mama's boys. I like a guy who loves his mother, but a guy who does everything his mother says when it involves some stupid witch from hundreds of years ago and other confusing shit that didn't make any sense is a big turn-off. So I continued to switch between scowling in disgust and finding him hot. It kinda felt like Jason was doing a little overtime in the son-ly duties if you know what I mean, and his mother wasn't the least bit hot. Way too old. Thinking about that was gross. More scowling from me. Then Lana killed his mother and he shows up at the Kent farm with a gun, bloody and hurt and confused, and that was cool. I wanted someone to care about him and take care of him.
But no one would! Not even Lana, who probably never really loved him in the first place, considering she was still in love with Clark. Then Jason gets smooshed by a meteor.
I Netflixed the first disc in the next season just to see how they were going to handle Jason's death. They handled it by just pretending he wasn't even freakin' there for most of the episode. Everyone looks for Martha Kent in the reckage of the house, finds her, and just LEAVES without even going, "Gee, I wonder where Jason is?" For all they knew, he could stand up with the gun and shoot them. At least look for his body. Lazy tv show makers. Find a guy with Jensen's build and hair and cover him with Kent house debris, and have someone find him, face down, and go, "Here's Jason. Oh my God, he's dead." Would that have been so hard? For most of the ep, I was wondering if they were EVER going to mention that he was even in the HOUSE when it was hit! I thought oh, I can see it now, fanfics about Jason surviving the meteor smooshing and being found by some pretty nurse who takes him in, and he has amnesia, and I was LIKING the idea. Then they confirmed his death with a briefly viewed newspaper article. "SOCIALITE AND SON FOUND DEAD" or whatever. I still want to read that fanfic, though. Written by someone good.
Still one of the worst characters Jensen ever played, but at least he got sexier there in the end.
You know, Lana must have her own regular room at the hospital, because she winds up there in almost every episode.
