Supernatural's latest ep, "Night Shifter."

My recap. Spoilers.

Awwww Mooooom, shape-shifters agaaaain? With so many different supernatural things they could have done episodes about, why are they redoing things already in only the second season? Not that I didn't like "Bloodlust," but first they repeat vampires, now shape-shifters. A little irritating.

The episode made me laugh a lot anyway. So, the major theme of this recap is LOL!

LOL #1: They broke into the "Previously on SPN" segment with "Breaking News" concerning the episode, ROFL! Just like real news breaking into a tv program. Very clever.

LOL #2: "You're a true patriot." I wrote that line down because it made me laugh, but now I can't remember who said it or what it was about.

LOL #3: The woman coming on to Dean. "I think you should interview me again... in private." Thank you for that little touch of reality. I mean, look at him! Dean's gotta have women coming on to him a lot.

LOL #4: Dean telling Sam he's creeped out by how good of a Fed he is. LOL. Sam's good at it!

LOL #5: Dean and Sam are watching security cameras and Dean starts zooming on some chick's ass, lol. His libido must be the size of a bull moose.

LOL #6: Ron doesn't like Sam because of him playing such a good Fed. Then Dean has to go off and look for the shape-shifter, leaving Sam alone with Ron. Sam's got to make the best of it. First thing he says: "Hi Ron," with this, "Ummm, oh shit," tone, LOL. That was cute.

Non-LOL #1: Ronald, nooooo! He was a sweet guy. Wish they hadn't killed him. When he got shot, I said to the TV, "Ronald AKA Hurley's long lost twin brother, nooooooo!"
Dean seemed hard hit and regretful over Ron getting shot, too. Awww. He's sweet to care so much. But I guess Sam was right to try to discourage Ron from doing anything further.

Non-LOL #2: "Who is that man?"
"He's my brother."
"He is so brave."

Nice dialogue. Very simplistic, but full of emotion, and makes me feel proud of Dean.

Non-LOL #3: Sam being so pessimistic. Ugh, Sam, chill out. It got annoying how fast he was announcing that they were screwed. They've faced some pretty big odds before, and came out of it okay. I usually enjoy the Pessimistic Jerk character, but it's all in how it's done. The way Jared chose to do the scene I am reacting to here made it all the more annoying, in that he was basically barking out his lines angrily. Stop yelling at Dean and try to think of a plan, PMS Man. We know you're the SPN Puppy, but that's no reason to bark. Bad dog!

Was the bank vault really as empty as it looked? I thought they actually kept, you know, stuff in a bank vault. ^_^?

I don't like Hendrickson at all so far. Nothing grey about him. He's just an asshole. I like my baddies with some grey in them, so I have trouble hating them fully and often find myself liking them a whoooole lot. Like Gordon. I can't root for his final goal, but I can't help but like him, and want Dean and Sam to work with him/be allies with him. I did like one piece of dialogue that Hendrickson had about not being able to figure out what kind of "whacko" John was, a white supremicist, paramilitary survivalist, etc. Hahaha, is he in for a surprise. John was military, but he didn't hunt anything I imagine Hendrickson would ever think of. :D
I think I would have preferred if they had written the ending of "The Usual Suspects" differently so Linda Blair's character could have been the one to pursue Sam and Dean. I really liked that character, and would look forward to her being on the show, even if she was trying to take the brothers to jail. You could tell that her character had some scruples. I didn't feel that from Hendrickson. He acted like he would be perfectly happy to kill all the hostages if it meant capturing Sam and Dean. That's just as bad as what he thinks they have done.Right now, I dread the next time Hendrickson will be on, practically spitting hatred and assholeness, almost as much as I dread when Jo is on.

I could tell exactly which one was Dean in the SWAT outfits by the way he walked. I'm such a fangirl. Now, you may be thinking of course you knew who he was, he's the shorter one. But it was a dark scene, and Dean was the first one I saw, and I instantly knew it was him by that walk. When he's trying to hurry without running, he stalks, like he's walking uphill.

I know that song from the end. It's called "Renegade." Is that Styx?

The [livejournal.com profile] spn_fridayfive for this week. The questions this week are haaaard, teacher!

1. If you could ask Kripke one question about the show and have it answered, what would it be?

Is Sam the Yellow-Eyed Demon's child or what? Just answer that one for me so I can be prepared if they're going to do that godawful plot twist.

2. How do you think Sam and Dean's morals are defined? And what are they?

This question makes me go oog. I'll just be basic about it. Sam wants to save everyone with no cost to life, which is often impossible and causes more death later, but there's no way for him to foresee that (sometimes, even if he has a vision about it). Dean will save everyone if he can, but if some have to die to prevent more loss of life later, then so be it. Sam's more of an idealist while Dean's a realist.

3. During Provenance, we see that Sam is very reluctant to start any relationships, because he's afraid that the people around him will get hurt. Do you think his thoughts on this topic has changed since then? If they have, do you think they've made him even more cautious, or more relaxed?

The passage of time will make him grow more and more lax on this topic. It's just the way people are, in general.

4. We see in the second season that while the mothers of some "chosen" kids died in a fire, others remain alive and healthy. Why do you think this is so? And how do you think the demon chooses who stays alive and who dies?

Maybe the mothers who were allowed to survive were kind of evil. Or they just didn't enter the nursery while Ceiling Demon was in there doing his Ceiling Demon thing. I don't know. It doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense right now. I think Kripke's just making it up as he goes along.

5. If it came down to it, do you think Dean will be able to keep the promise he made to Sam and kill his brother?

As things stand now, no. As things may stand after next week's episode, yes. This is pure speculation, but the preview of next week's ep made me think that Dean is going to have a spiritual experience when he sees this angel, and somehow it's going to convince him that if it's for the sake of the world, he may have to kill Sam. He won't, but you know, the writers like to fuck with us.
Was anyone else just really strongly reminded of Buffy being asked to kill Dawn? I mean, usually I wouldn't say it, because many ideas can be similiar to others, but it's not like Kripke hasn't stolen from Buffy/Angel before... who may have stolen from "Sailor Moon"...
