SPN "Hollywood Babylon" and Friday Five
Apr. 20th, 2007 11:59 pmEeee I love this new icon; one of my favorite images from "The Ring Two." Samaidan! Do you see the little evil well bitch in the picture? Look hard now... AHHH she's gonna get ya! ^_^
My thoughts on last night's SPN, "Hollywood Babylon"...
I thought it was pretty funny, but I don't think I loved it as much as a lot of other fans. "Hell House" was still much lol funnier. I found myself a little bored during certain scenes. But at least it wasn't full of holes, which I can't say for every episode.
I liked the reference to "Gilmore Girls." Heehee. But I didn't understand Sam's reaction. I know he reacted at all as a throwback to Jared being on GG, but why was Sam horrified/disturbed by the mention? Wouldn't it have been funnier if he'd been excited at the mention of GG? Sam, likes Gilmore Girls, haha? I guess I just didn't understand what emotion Jared was going for; it didn't seem to make sense. If he'd looked confused, like, "Gilmore Girls? Hmmmm..." But instead, he looked disturbed. *shrug* I wanted them to throw in a mention for Jensen too, but I guess they only wanted to plug CW shows that were still in production that one of the guys had been in. Still, they could have said, "And there is the soundstage where 'Dawson's Creek' was filmed," or something.
The basic story actually had some originality and natural humor to it, but I was still kind of bored at times. I guess they just captured the daily life on a film set a little too well, how slow and repetitive it can be.
Let me just say that Dean as a horror film buff and general film fan rocks pretty hard. It works on so many levels. Infrequently can I get inside a character's head through his hobbies this deeply. Nobody in movies or tv ever has this many interests in common with me, so that I could actually have a conversation with them. It's just really neat and makes fanfic characterization that much easier.
The amount of pleasurable eating that Dean did in this episode was funny; I hadn't eaten much at the time that I watched it so it made me HUNGRY. I was like LITTLE PHILLY CHEESESTEAKS GIMME EEEEEEYUUUUUUUMMMMMM
The fake trailer for "Hell Hazers 2" was cute, how they made it seem like a real commercial.
When the one guy got killed by the fan, and his blood splattered on the white screen, the blood was CHUNKY, ewwwwwwww! XD
I'd have to check to be sure, but I think the dude who played the studio suit guy who got hung is the same actor who played the realtor in "The Ring Two," the one who was selling the Morgan farm. Neato! (I checked; it's him. ^_^)
It was cute when Dean fanboyed on that horror actress. He's adorable when he's shy. It shouldn't have been a surprise to me that he remembered that he's Dean Winchester, Superstud, and got her in bed by the end of the episode, but it did. Now, normally, I would have thought that Dean starting out shy and adorable and winding up with the casual fuck would be spoiling the sweetness potential of the story. But Dean and Tara hardly spent any time together. Also, I didn't like their choice of actress to play Tara. For most of this season, they have just been so off on their casting choices for women. They pick someone just plain ugly or not talented enough to generate chemistry, and although Jensen tries, he just can't make me want him to be with any of the women they choose for him. So I could care less if he loves them or just fucks them. Most of the time, I just want him to screw them and move on so I don't have to see them again. The actress who played Tara had a manly voice; it made her doubly unattractive. So I was just kind of like eh about how it ended up. At least Dean got laid. Seems like it's been a while. It made me mad, though, that we've gotten shirtless Sam recently and here's a perfect opportunity to get shirtless Dean, and they don't do it! He walks out of the trailer putting his shirt on; it would have been just that easy. Dopes. :P
Either way, I did want to scold Dean when I saw that trailer rocking, for some reason. Don't know why, since I'd probably take the same chance if it had it with any of the hot actors I fangirl for.
Anyway, here's the SPN Friday Five for this week.

1. If Sam and/or Dean have children, do you think they will bring up their children learning how to hunt or give them a "normal" upbringing?
I think that depends on their mothers. Sam would definitely do all he could to bring his children up normal. He's much more likely to just give up hunting altogether for a child. Dean, though, that would depend on the child's mother. How I think it would go is that Dean would try to be normal and stay in one place for a while, but once he realized that the mom could take care of the child fairly well, he'd start going on weekend hunts. Those weekend hunts would turn into longer and longer hunts that would cause fights between Dean and the mother until Dean became one of those absent fathers that only came around infrequently. I could see him thinking that that was actually better for the kid anyway. He just doesn't seem like the type who could settle down with one woman and stop hunting altogether, not traveling all the time, unless something happened that made him stop, like a debilitating injury.
2. What do you think about the usage of song titles as episode titles? (Ex: In My Time of Dying, Houses of the Holy)
It's cool!
3. Of the songs played on the show thus far, which one do you like the least?
Some of the alternative stuff didn't seem to fit.
4. Assuming Sam and Dean had any sort of "normal" childhood toy, what do you think it was?
I think they had lots of normal childhood toys. John wasn't giving them guns to play with when they were in kindergarten, except maybe toy guns.
5. What is one quote you think best describes Sam and Dean each? (edit: you don't have to use quotes from the show if you don't want to)
I can't think of any in particular. Sam, just something about him having two sides to him, the side that wants to be normal and the side that wants to help people even at the cost of that normalcy. Dean, just something about being a wild, untamed stallion, rrreow.
