asian horror : I love Asian horror because it is still scary and gives me a glance into another culture. American horror movies, for the most part, have lost their way. The people who make them seem to think it's all about startle scares instead of what's genuinely scary. I respect and love Japanese horror movies especially because they can still keep me up at night and make me fear boogeymen who don't exist. I've been watching horror movies since I was a kid, but especially since we got cable when I was 11 years old. I'd sneak slasher flicks after my parents had gone to bed, and although I do love many American horror movies, they rarely really scared me. For a movie to make me sleep with the light on at the age of 34 is a pretty amazing thing. It's an added bonus that these films give me a peek into a culture I may not see otherwise. The Ghost of Mae Nak, not scary. But WOW! The culture of Thailand is gorgeous! I doubt I would have seen it otherwise.

carl crew movies : Carl Crew is an actor in Hollywood I got to be friends with in 1994. I interviewed him for the fanzine I was doing at the time. He's made a lot of independent films that are very controversial and insane; the only thing he's ever done that is probably still findable is his only professional role, Blood Diner. One of the best horror spoofs ever made, with a ridiculous amount of blood. Has lines like, "You killed my brother! I'm gonna feed your head to Shee-tar!" Last time I talked to Carl, he was running the CIA Club in Hollywood. And it doesn't hurt that he's very easy on the eyes. I still don't have a picture uploaded anywhere.

fansenshi : Fansenshi are fan-created sailor soldiers from the universe of Sailor Moon, a Japanese animated tv show from the 1990's. Basically, if you're not familiar with the show, sailor soldiers are female warriors who fight evil with magical powers based on their mythology and/or the planet they represent. They're called "sailor" soldiers simply because their uniforms have sailor-style collars - the Japanese can be very literal in how they name things. Like, there's a male warrior on the show who wears a tuxedo and a mask, and his name is TUXEDO MASK. XD Anyway, I create way too many of these characters. They're very addictive. Once you start doing a little research, you find there are so many possible things you can base fansensi on, and then you want one for every asteroid, every moon, every god and goddess, every space object, every element, on and on. Oh, and "senshi" is Japanese for "soldier."

Other things about SM that make creating fansenshi extremely fun:

Because of the very awesome Sailorsaturn, you can create badass ultrapowerful warriors in totally cool outfits who fly in and make life hell for Sailormoon. It's almost expected in any fanfic that includes fansenshi. Or, maybe they work for the side of good. Or maybe they're very gray. Or maybe you have some evil ones and some good ones and they fuck shit up in a battle to try to save the world. You just have to experience how friggin' cool Sailorsaturn is to understand how much fun it can be to create badass senshi. What's an Apocalyptic SM fanfic without a bunch of fansenshi (and the originals) completely destroying Tokyo?

I do have my own rules about the badasses, though, in that they are never truly more powerful than Sailormoon, Sailorsaturn, or Sailorgalaxia (unless we're talking about a relative, like Chibimoon, or a clone-like character like Sailordarkcosmos). They might fuck Sailormoon up for a while, but eventually she's going to release her true powers and smoke 'em, hehheh.

One of the funnest things about fansenshi, though? Creating their outfits and picking their shoes. XD I was once a little girl, you know. The senshi can have some pretty whacked out but gorgeous uniforms. And they almost all have different shoes. So I have strived to give them all their own unique shoes even if it means some of them are a bit strange. It's so fun. XD Just like dressing up my Barbies!

kirby : Kirby is a cute, pink ball with arms and legs who battles bad guys in several different video games. I love his games because they are colorful, with pretty graphics, and I can actually win them. XD That's kind of rare without a game Genie.

paul callan : The character played by Skeet Ulrich on the tv show "Miracles," which was cancelled before ABC gave it a chance to take off. I love the character because he is played by Skeet Ulrich; that's enough. ;D No, seriously, gorgeous, caring, self-sacrificing, heroic, interesting, complex, spiritual, surrounded by badass paranormal shit, and just a damn well-thoughtout character. One of Skeet's best looks. I could just stare at Paul all day.

storm chasing : I have never actually gone on a storm-chasing run because I don't know anyone who does it. But I'd love to. Living in north Texas, you get drilled on tornado safety in school. We regularly had drills to learn how to sit in the hallway with our butts up in the air incase a tornado came through and tore up the school. I always found everything surrounding torandoes to be very, very exciting. I'm sure if a tornado came through and ripped up my home, I probably wouldn't feel this way anymore, but since it's never happened to me, wee! Tornado! Every time we have a big one, I get all excited and bouncy and watch the coverage with enthusiasm. I guess it's all the hullabaloo over the awesome power of nature. I have several "big storm" stories that are fun to recall. In the mid-90's, we had a big storm come through, and I remember walking the neighborhood with my niece and nephew to survey the storm damage. It was just so exciting, looking at a huge tree lying on a carport with a car underneath and just imagining how it happened. Consequently, Twister is one of my favorite movies. :D

unicorns : Give me a plain ol' horse and I'm bored. Stick a twisty horn on its head and suddenly it's beautiful and majestic. Not sure why it makes a difference. I collect anything with a unicorn on it, especially figurines and art. In fact, I had so much unicorn junk I had to sell some in my last garage sale because it was all so unmanageable (and I had collected a lot of ugly junk from when I worked at the dollar store that just wasn't pretty to me anymore).
