Deanne Winchester, come eat your soup!
Nov. 30th, 2007 04:00 amI put up a poll not too long ago about what would be the best name for girl!Dean, a female version of Dean for an alternate world. Just because I wanna, I'm going to go over which name I picked and what I think about the others.
1. Deanne. This seems to be the best name for girl!Dean. Lots of people seem to like it, and it is the most straightforward conversion of "Dean" to a female name. It sounds good with "Winchester." When I imagine people saying the name in my head, it sounds right. I suppose then that Deanna sounds just as good, but I like Deanne just a hair better.
2. Danielle. I really like this name for girl!Dean for some reason. It sounds almost as good as Deanne, and it's something different that isn't used for her that much. I may use this too, but for less stories than Deanne.
3. Donna. No offense to any Donnas out there, but no one voted for this. I guess it just doesn't fit the character that well. I don't think I'll use it.
4. Dina/Deena. Several people suggested this. I do think that it sounds really good for a female version of Dean, but it creeps me out to name characters after family members, especially if I'm going to be writing about them having sex. I have a cousin named Dina. D'oh. I can't use Dee for the same reason - Dee is my sister.
5. Delaney. I LOOOOVE this name, but I'm partial to unusual names since I grew up with one. I was surprised that anyone else voted for it. But yay that you did! I probably won't use it though; it's a little too flashy for a girl like Dean, hee. Maybe for one story.
6. Dana. I liked this name for female Dean a lot at first, but now, meh. It just doesn't work for some reason. I have another character named Dana anyway.
7. Dinah. Moosie suggested this one. I'm assuming you mean the pronunciation "Die-nuh," like the cat from Alice in Wonderland. It's a nice, unique name, but somehow doesn't fit the character too well.
Fic babbling over. :)
