Last Backstabber Standing
Jul. 8th, 2003 09:35 pmSo I'm watching "Last Comic Standing" this summer, and it's starting to get on my nerves. The point is to be the last comic standing because you're the FUNNIEST, not because you're the best schmoozer and the most effective backstabber. I mean, I am serious, shows like this make me lose hope in humanity, and I am not kidding when I say that. It just sickens me to see how grown people gang up on one person who doesn't deserve it and try to get them off the show because there's some thing they don't like about him or her. Okay, I can understand it if the person is a jerk and has pissed off several people in the house, but that's often not the case. It's quite pathetic that the most backstabby people on the show are the LEAST funny; gee, I wonder why they'd resort to two-faced junior high behavior to win? Maybe because they KNOW they can't win otherwise?
It really disappoints me to see Ralphie and Dave act like that, because they are two of the funniest people in the house. They don't need to be two-faced. They're making me hate them. Corey hasn't even made me chuckle; she needs to go (and she's probably the most two-faced person on the show; watch your back around this one!). Rich is very cliche and unfunny, in general. Poor Dat is too honest for this show; if these baracudas can get him voted off, they will. He's a little high strung, but he's funny and genuine and I really like him. That's why he won't win. :P Tess isn't funny either. She just does the typical, done-two-million-times-before black chick jokes. And she's very slick, like most of the rest of the group. Yawn. If I didn't already care too much about who will win the show, I'd stop watching it at this point because the closer they get to the bigger competitions, the more two-faced people get, and I just can't stand childish behavior like that. That's how the reality shows hook you. That's why I don't even bother watching most of them, because I don't want to get hooked and then have to deal with feeling sick to my stomach after every episode, having to watch the absolute worst of human behavior.
And I thought comics, of all people, could see enough of the humor in life to take a competition like this with a grain of salt. I thought they of all people could spit on the typical reality show behavior and do this with humility. Ptooie.
<.cynical> I guess people are the same all over. <./cynical>
In Laurel news, nothing new is going on, really.
