Why isn't Tori Amos as TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME as she used to be? I've been listening to my mix cd of her older music for the last two days and ACK, she's just so freaking cool with the best, most poetic lyrics, and her music just isn't as good now. Everytime I listen to Little Earthquakes, I laugh because I remember years ago when my dad and I went on vacation to S Padre Island, TX, which was a yearly thing for us for several years, and it was an 11 hour drive down there. He'd let me listen to some of my music part of the ride just so I didn't go crazy from his music. He loved big band music and stuff; after a few hours of that, I was ready to jump out the window. But I'd try to take it easy on him and not listen to Metallica or something. (He thought James Hetfield sounded like a human chainsaw.) Tori Amos seemed like a good choice. I kind of cringed at the sexually-themed lyrics being played in his presence, though. Anyway, the funny part is that after a few songs and a few lines like, So you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts, what's so amazing about really deep thoughts? Boy, you best pray that I bleed real soon, How's that thought for you? and I wanna smash the faces of those beautiful boys, those Christian boys, So you can make me cum, that doesn't make you Jesus, my dad goes, "I think this is what they used to call a protest album." XD My dad, king of the understated one-liner.
I need to finish my current claims for
album_mix so I can claim Little Earthquakes, damn it.
Speaking of protests, I'm not taking part in this thing that's supposed to be taking place on LJ tomorrow where we "walk out" and refuse to post. If I think of something to post, I will. The reason being that it's supposed to be a protest for showing LJ how important basic account users are to LJ (or some dumb thing like that), and I'm a paid user. It would just screw with the statement that's trying to be made for other types of users to participate, IMO. Also, I just really think it's a pointless way to protest. What does not posting for one day really do to LJ? I don't think the protest was well thought-out, to be honest. If you're going to take part in it, great, just please do it because you really believe in the statement trying to be made and not because of LJ sheepism.
There's another problem with this form of protest. How do we know who is not posting because of the protest and who is not posting because they have nothing to say that day? In order to let people know that you're not posting to protest... you have to post. O_o No, this wasn't well planned.
Sorry, LJ protest sheepism just drives me nuts. The way people just join in without even thinking about the nature of the protest, whether the method is effective, if it's even something worth fighting for, and then they cross-post it all over every community I belong to to "spread the word" and I have to look at it over and over and over. It's actually kind of scary.
So, do as *I* say. POST FRIDAY FOR THE RIGHTS OF POODLES TO HAVE LIVEJOURNALS!
