I hate it when fraidy cats do reviews of horror movies, and because they are easily spooked, they say things like, "This movie has some of the most horrific, scariest imagery ever." And a seasoned horror movie fan like me goes, "Cooooool..." and Netflixes the movie in anticipation of seeing some really scary stuff... and the movie is kinda lame and totally unscary. In fact, I'd more call it a sci-fi movie than a horror movie.

I'm talking about "Silk," an Asian movie that had some cool ideas and neat special effects, but overall was a big disappointment after that buildup. The story was really all over the place. Some nice moments, but again, kind of meh. A few images that I can see being scary to your average fraidy cat, but to me were just neat to look at. Not scary. Every Asian movie has some WTF stuff that is hard to understand because of the cultural differences, but this one had more than its share. There were two parts that were supposed to be scary or exciting and they looked so freakin' ridiculous that I laughed out loud. I'd say skip it unless you'd like sci-fi involving a substance that can catch ghosts (which is a cool idea), or you're hopelessly addicted to Asian horror like a certain person we all know.

I wish the concepts this film was built on had been put to better use because it had some really badass ideas.
