SPN 4.03 "In the Beginning"

sailorhathorUnder the cut I'll be detailing what I liked and didn't like about the new SPN ep, so SPOILERS, of course.
Although I didn't like how they chose to do everything here, it was still a pretty exciting episode. Point-by-point:
- YAY SAM AND DEAN ARE FULL BLOOD BROTHERS!! <3 <3 <3 So happy for that.
- I'm sure they got the title of the ep from the Bible, but there's also a Motley Crue song with that name, hee. Or rather, an introduction to a song.
- Dean Van Halen, ROFL!!! What would have been just as funny: Dean Lee Roth.
- LOVE LOVE LOVE Castiel. I want him on the show every episode, forever and ever. He's just so sexy with that "come corrupt me" accountant look and deep voice and how he moves and just everything about him. The way he says things, you know what he means, but he's so mysterious about it. OOH hoohoo hoo hoo. My favorite SPN character after Dean, methinks. Season four is fast becoming my favorite season, if it keeps going on the way it has.
- John was going to buy a VW van, lol!!!
- I think they got the 70's right except for John and Mary's style. Mary's shirt was fairly 70's, but the jeans... neither one wearing bellbottoms... I guess John could be so clean cut because he just got out of the service... but no big sideburns? Hee. Maybe they were rebels. XD
- The date on the newspaper was May 20, 1973, wasn't it? If Azazel visited ten years later, shouldn't the date have been like Oct. 31 or something, 1973? (Since Dean was there a couple of days.) Otherwise, Azazel came back when Sam was born, not when he was six months old. Did Azazel get hung up somewhere for six months, or does he not visit exactly ten years later? Or is it a continuity error?
- Wait, when is Sam's birthday? May 2 or May 23rd or what? I need to look it up sometime. Somewhere around there.
- I think I'm getting Paul Callan's birthday mixed up in there. XP Must look shit up later.
- I thought it was kind of corny that Mary's family turned out to all be hunters. And her mom being Deanne and her dad Samuel. It makes sense that Mary would want to name her kids after them, but still... I guess it was just overload for me. BUT, if they were going to do that, wouldn't it have made sense for Mary's dad to have been the one who taught John how to hunt after Mary died? Geez, that would have made hella sense. I smell fanfic.
- Hee, I like how Castiel just appeared in the car and scared the hell out of Dean. XD Also love how Castiel doesn't exactly tell Dean how to feel about things, he just asks leading questions.
- So angels can be manipulative too. Hm, interesting.
- Loved Dean waking up with Castiel just sitting on the bed. XD It came off so clueless for Castiel, like he had no idea that we'd all be swooning from the suggestiveness there. (The Dean/Castiel fangirls, anyway.) And Castiel asking, "What were you dreaming about?" like he knew exactly what Dean was dreaming about, and just wants Dean to face it.
- "Sam, wherever you are, our mom is hot. I'm going to hell. Again." XD
- Oh, completely forgot to say that I called a few things here. \o/ This incident in the past did include Azazel, and the reason why Mary knew who he was when she saw him in the nursery ten years later is because of this incident. Azazel also possessed Mary's dad. It wasn't exactly in the context I thought it would be, but still. And in a way, Castiel did bring Dean back to save Sam. He didn't say it as nicely as that, but in order to stop Sam from turning evil and taking part in Azazel's "endgame," Dean has to save him. (It's one of Dean's lordly tasks. :D) I wonder if Dean realizes that Castiel didn't have to give him this chance to save Sam. He could have just smited already.
- I'm glad that Mary has been redeemed. She's not a hussy who cheated on John with Azazel. She just made a deal that she thought would be harmless in order to save John. It's finally been put to rest that Azazel did not have sex with Mary and conceive Sam. Honestly, though, I think the idea of Azazel possessing John on the night Sam was conceived is more in line with the mythology of Azazel. (I smell fanfic again.) However, I always wondered why Azazel would feed blood to baby Sam if he was already his spawn. Doesn't seem necessary in that context. So, what they did in tonight's ep is more in line with what's already been on the show, but not exactly in line with the mythology of Azazel. Well, they've changed mythology before...
- Why were Mary's old friends being killed at the beginning of season 3? I can't find an answer for that one yet.
- Did Daniel Elkins get his gun back? I guess so!
- How did Mary ever explain that whole thing to John? Gee, my dad is lying dead here... but I'm not a hunter and I didn't just make a demon pact! I bet she told him that her dad went nuts, knocked John out, and somehow got stabbed, maybe Mary defending herself. And her dad murdered her mom. Eek, not the nicest lie to have to tell about your parents. But how else could Mary explain it?
- Why did Mitch Pileggi decide to play that scene where Azazel was possessing his body so damn OVERTLY SEXUAL?? That was CREEPY AS ALL HELL. In an "ewwww, make it stop" way. Please, PLEASE, in the name of all that is holy, no one write any "Mary's dad molests Dean while he's pinned in the chair" fic. Him sniffing his neck was bad enough. *shudder*
- MARY HAD TO KISS HER OWN DEAD DADDY, EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!! *MEGA-SHUDDER*
- Do all demons make deals with a kiss or what?
- Do angels do that too? Quick, Dean, make a deal with Castiel. I don't care WHAT it is, just do it.
- I can't wait to see Dean's reaction when he sees what's been going on with Sam next week. Oooooh that'll be GOOOOOD.
- Time travel episodes always create "but, if Dean was there in the past, then..." problems. Like, why didn't Azazel recognize Dean in the first season, when they first faced him? Maybe he did but didn't say so? Meh, I dunno. Not a huge thing, really. You could, then, say that maybe that's why Azazel tried to kill Dean to begin with, because he knew Dean might be the one to kill him, BUT, then why would Azazel agree to bring Dean back to life when he could have just been rid of him? So maybe Azazel tried to kill Dean as revenge for Dean killing one of his children, like he said. Eh, whatever. ^_^ Azazel didn't really seem that convinced that Dean would be the one to kill him in the future.
- You think John had to kiss Azazel the janitor when they made their deal at the start of season 2? Ewwwwwwwww.
- More Castiel love: Instead of saying well, Dean, I sent you back to 1973 so you would understand what's going on with Sam now, he just looks at Sam's empty bed to indicate who he's talking about. That was just such a great gesture for a being that doesn't speak like a normal person (since it isn't a normal person).
- Why do Dean and Sam sometimes sleep in obvious jammie-like stuff (underwear, bare chests, ratty old t-shirts) and other times, sleep in their clothes? That is NOT comfortable. I guess you could say it's so they can always be at the ready in case something supernatural happens, but can't they be just as ready to fight evil in sweatpants and a t-shirt?
- I thought Kripke said at some point that John was from Sacramento, CA. It didn't seem so, unless his family moved to Lawrence some years ago. People in town knew John's father as well as him. Maybe they moved, or Kripke changed his mind.
- Loved Castiel's sad faces at sad moments. Oh hell, let's just say I loved Castiel and leave it at that.
- Mary was pretty cool. She was fairly well cast.
- John, meh. He was okay.
- I want to punch all the reviewers who said we were going to learn all this mindblowing stuff about Sam and how he relates to the show's mythology in this ep. We already knew all that stuff about Sam. MARY was the big shocker.
I think that's it. If I think of anything else I want to say, I'll add it here or make a new post. Whatever strikes my fancy. *does a flapper dance*
