ARE THEY ANY GOOD: They're adequate.
ANIMATED ICONS ARE: Usually fun, but it irritates me when someone takes a half-second clip from an episode (because that's all they can fit in 30k) and makes it an icon, and it barely plays and then starts over again. The movement is always herky-jerky and you can hardly tell what's going on; I just don't see the point in them. That's not to say they're all bad, because I've seen a few successful icons like this, but overall, they're annoying.
