I honestly don't think an entry in my journal would help create a Google bomb because I have it set to minimize my inclusion in search results, which means search bots are told to scram. But, I've seen this linked and it's all very, very interesting reading. Amazon has fucked up in a major way. They're about to have a PR nightmare similar to the one LJ had a little while ago with Strikethrough Gate, but on a much bigger scale, unless they fix this messed up and inconsistent anti-adult-content search thing they implemented earlier this year.
You've Been Amazon Ranked
You know what? I am 36 years old. I have been living without my parents, almost completely on my own, for years now, and have done a pretty damn good job of it considering the obstacles I've had to overcome. I do not need Amazon or anybody else trying to tell me what books are appropriate for me to buy by making it harder for me to find the ones some people find objectionable. Children do not have credit cards or checking accounts; how can they even buy things on Amazon? If Amazon feels they need a safe search option, then why don't they make it so actual adults can turn it off? And furthermore, before they implement this new search function, why don't they make sure it isn't a laughably designed piece of crap that filters out psychology books about sexuality, but not sex toys? ILLUSTRATED searches, I might add.
You'd think a major retailer could do better than this. I can see why people think this adult content filter is specifically designed to be a censor rather than a safeguard.
It's incredibly stupid, too. People will just take their business elsewhere. I know no (often overpriced anyway) retailer is going to tell me what I can and can't buy. There's almost always some other place to get it, where I don't have to HUNT for it.
