I recently asked about Los Angeles suburbs and Japanese-American population and they led me to the Torrance area, which led me to city-data.com, and it's just a treasure trove of research-fu. I never would have known what cities to use without them.
Finally, if you love to research Japan and specifically supernatural Japan to every infinite detail, I highly recommend the writing of Lafcadio Hearn. Google even has ebooks of his work, free to download. I'm like a kid in a candy store who has filled up on candy and now wants free books.
