Reactions to SPN 5.10 Abandon All Hope.

Spoilers under the cut.

Meh.

The episode was okay, even had some exciting parts, but I'm kind of disappointed, because I wanted unexpected twists and all I got was predictability. Still, I'm happy they Didn't Go There in a couple ways.

- I love how Castiel holds his liquor. XD That was so funny. "I think I'm starting to feel something."

- Also loved Jo knocking on the car window and asking Cas if he knew how a door handle worked, then BING! he's magically standing next to her. XD It was really fun to see someone else's reaction to Cas besides people who are used to him. Why was he riding with Ellen and Jo anyway? The Impala has a backseat. ^_^?

- Cas is learning how to be human from Dean. So he uses more and more human slang with each episode. That's so flipping adorable. XD

- I was amused with how they pulled a fast one on us and had Crowley kissing some fat old white guy instead of a woman, as many of us thought. XD Puts the actor's tweets into a whole new perspective. Yuck. XD

- Loved that many highways crossing over one another can be a crossroads as well. Of course! That was nice.

- Kinda frustrates me that no one stopped to think that the Colt might not work on Lucifer. Ruby's knife didn't work on Castiel. Lucifer was once an archangel. Sure, the Colt worked on Azazel, but he's different. I understand that they had to take a chance and try it, but it really seemed like they thought as long as they got close enough to shoot Lucifer that he would just be dead. Couldn't at least one character bring up the possibility?

- Tired of "last night on earth" speeches.

- Misha sure did look hot in firelight. Nice facial shadows.

- With all those possessed people to help, why was Lucifer doing all the shoveling? XD He's a hands on kind of evil-doer.

- Don't really get why Dean didn't shoot Meg when he had the chance. Even if they are surrounded by Hellhounds, at least he could have taken her out.

- Teehee'ed when Cas threw Meg down on the fire to break the circle and walked out on top of her. Go Cas!

- Not very happy with them killing off more strong female characters instead of giving them a chance to be developed and grow. I guess I just have to get used to it with this show. *Sigh* I mean, seriously, what the hell is their problem with the girls? As soon as they showed Jo's injury and how bad it was bleeding, I knew she was a goner. So predictable. I was hoping they'd do more with her and let her come into her own, but no. Instead, she dies saving Dean, heaping MORE guilt on him. Then they gave me a little hope for about five seconds, with everyone plotting how to get Jo out, and then Jo says no, I want to sacrifice myself because I can't feel my legs. Was that because of the blood loss or because we had another person who gets a gut injury and somehow winds up magically paralyzed? Dean carries her in but somehow, now he can't carry her out? I get that the bomb was a good idea to get the hellhounds off their asses, because I guess hellhounds can be blown up (???), but if they could just climb over to the roof of the next building or whatever they did, it didn't seem necessary. People set bombs off from a distance all the time. If they didn't have the necessary equipment to do that, then say it. But of course, in magical tv land, the only way to set the bomb off is to be right in the middle of it.
So, we've got Jo who was as good as dead ready to set off the bomb to give everyone else a chance to escape, and Ellen who isn't hurt at all, and Ellen wants to commit suicide instead of living without her family. Which I can understand from Ellen's POV, but Sam and Dean are just going to walk out like sure, okay Ellen, bye Ellen, nice knowing you Ellen!? I didn't believe that for a second. They're not going to at least try to drag the woman out of there by force? No one knew Jo would pass out/die before the bomb could be set off, but by that time, Ellen had the detonator anyway. At least TRY to make Ellen leave with you. That had me WTFing like mad. I certainly would have enjoyed the emotional turmoil of Ellen physically fighting Dean and Sam to stay, the only thing making them give up and leave is her pointing a gun at them or something.
Wasn't very happy with Ellen's last words, either. I would have preferred something a little more personal, maybe, "Come on Jo, let's go see your daddy," or something. Which brings up the fact that what happened to Bill Harvelle is a loose end and always will be a loose end. Meg told Jo that John had to shoot Bill in the head after the monster they were hunting gutted Bill beyond saving. Is that what really happened? We may never know.
For the record, I did not cry when Jo and Ellen died because I was too busy being angry and disappointed over the loss of perfectly good characters. I might add, POINTLESS loss, because Dean and Sam didn't kill Lucifer. They died for nothing.
One thing I learned from both creative writing teachers I've had is that a character can only die as much as they have lived. If you tell us hardly anything about them and kill them anyway, it's a waste.

As disappointed as I was in that whole thing, I still kinda liked the rest of the episode.

- At least they didn't cheapen it all by having Dean and Jo do a "last night of our lives" hookup. Praise the laaaawd.

- Unsure why they focused so much on Jo's face when Bobby burned the picture. Ellen was far more developed than Jo was.

- I think I could have taken either Jo or Ellen dying, but killing both of them, especially needlessly, was too much.

- I guess Lucifer raising the Death Horseman is supposed to be a big deal, but I'm having trouble feeling any dread over it. They defeated War by simply cutting off his ring. *Shrug*

- I don't think that Lucifer resurrected Castiel. If he did, it seems like he would have mentioned it when he had a perfect chance, especially since he was trying to convince Cas to join him.

- I'm liking New!Meg a lot more now. She's still pretty much Meg. I wonder if she'll think about what Castiel said and eventually want to become their ally.

- Now, heaven help me, I'm wanting some Jo/Cas. But I'm having trouble with it because I want Jimmy to still be in there and Jimmy wouldn't willingly cheat on his wife. Cas wouldn't use his body to do something like that. I can resolve Dean/Cas in my mind but the same trick doesn't work for Jo/Cas. So I can't write it until I can find a way to make it okay. Stupid brain, thinking too much.

Libido: *Dangles Dean/Cas/Jo in front of me*

You bitch.

Amelia died? No, that's too sad. Still...

Going to try to stop raging now. :D If I think of anything else I wanted to say, I'll add it.

**SPECULATION ON FUTURE EPISODES AND TALK OF SPOILERS BELOW. DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE SPOILERPHOBIC.**

- I read a spoiler interview with Mark What's-his-name that said Michael was supposed to show up and save Dean when Lucifer started beating him up, and they made it sound like it was supposed to happen in THIS episode. Obviously, it didn't happen, so is that a spoiler for a future ep?

- I've read about another future ep where Anna decides that the only way to keep Lucifer from taking Sam as his vessel is to go back in time and kill John and Mary before they have a chance to conceive him. Young John and Mary will be back, yaaaay! And maybe Anna won't make it out of the episode alive, YAAAAAY!!
