Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday last week. ^_^ I even got lj v-gifts from [livejournal.com profile] just_kaye, [livejournal.com profile] deejay (who also got me a gift certificate, which I used to buy tarot cards), and [livejournal.com profile] dodgegirl22. Was also pleasantly surprised that so many strangers on Facebook whom I have only friended to have more Neighbors, Mafia Family, etc in the games I play took the time to tell me happy birthday. What nice people. :)

[livejournal.com profile] emmademarais also wrote me a story, a delicious Dean/Paul drabble found here. Never get enough of that Dean/Paul stuff...

Movies I have seen lately... [REC]

**SPOILERS AHEAD!!**

[REC] is the Spanish movie that "Quarantine" was based on. I LOVED it. It's about the host of a tv show in Spain who goes with a cameraman to follow the fire dept on what seems to be a routine call. But it turns out there's some sort of virus going around the building that turns people into wild, homicidal animals. Everyone is locked into the building by the health department and they have to try to find a way to survive without becoming infected. Once the host of the show gets to the apt building, it's just non-stop action and scares, very exciting. Movies rarely surprise me with the jump scares, but this one made me gasp and jump at least four times. They use the "someone appears dead but you turn around and BOOM, they're GONE! or BOOM, now they're standing up, waiting for you" trope very effectively. I especially got tense in the last scene, where we see the monstrous source of the virus, and the tv host and her cameraman have to try to elude it in the PITCH BLACK DARKNESS. Only the cameraman can see through nightvision on the camera, the tv host can't see shit. I know in that situation, I'd be scared out of my mind.

The Orphan

**SPOILERS AHEAD!!**

I'm sorry Kaye, I only liked about half of this, then it got stupid IMO. It's about an orphan (duh) who is adopted by a couple who already have two kids, and apparently have had a lot of marrital problems for Esther the orphan to exploit. I was enjoying it 'til the first murder, then it just kept going more and more overboard. The girl breaks her own arm to make the wife look bad, fine, but no one's going to notice the vice-shaped bruises on either side of her arm? Come now. I actually would have liked it better if the kid had turned out to really be a kid who was just hella messed up than a dwarf. I can't exactly explain why, I just thought that was a dumb twist. I mean, Esther must be the most insane dwarf woman ever if she actually thinks pretending to be a child and murdering all of his kids is going to make a man fall in love with her. She's going to have to find herself a pedophile before that'll work. Ew.

The thing that really shocked me was how they blantantly stole lines from "The Ring Two." The end, when Esther stupidly tried the "Mommy" line, and the wife says, "I'm not your fucking mommy," UHH HELLO?? It made me wonder if it was the same screenwriter, but it doesn't seem so, unless one guy helped ghostwrite the other. Pfft.

I highly doubt a straitjacket can cause permanent scars, either.
