My flailing over "Supernatural" ep 5.18 "Point of No Return."

SPOILERS below for SPN 5.18

- First, I must flail shamelessly for the pandering the writers did for the Dean/Castiel shippers. FLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIL!!!! You gotta wonder how Jensen and Misha reacted at the table read. XD First, Dean's angry line, "Blow me, Cas." I squealed and flailed and laughed my ass off. I didn't even know you could say stuff like that on network TV. It's like when on that episode of "Roseanne," Becky 2 and Darlene were fighting, and Darlene said Becky was so braindead she was practically a vegetable, and Becky goes, "You're a vegetarian. Eat me." You laugh like crazy just because you can't believe they got it past the censors. It was like that. And then there's the added "pandering to Dean/Cas fans like me" aspect of it, because you know all of us at that moment wanted Cas to take Dean seriously.
You would think that was enough, but THEN, the writers sneak in ANOTHER little tidbit. Castiel is glaring at Dean and Dean's response is, "Last time I saw a look like that, I got laid." And Cas just goes on staring at him like that. Just FLAUNT it in everyone's faces, Dean!
- Cas got to kick some ass. Alright Cas! BAMF!
- Loved how Castiel was so mad that he couldn't even bother to close the door with his hand; instead, he uses his angel psychokinesis to whoosh it closed. Nice touch.
- Cas really does follow Dean around like a little puppy, doesn't he? I mean, he was angrier than we've maybe ever seen him, and still he takes big chances with his safety for Dean. Sure, you could say it's all for the fate of the world, but after a while, you gotta wonder if Cas doesn't have a thing for Dean. Okay, *I* gotta wonder.
- Loved Dean packing up his stuff to send to Bobby. Although, when he wrote "Robert Singer" on the box, did anyone else get confused for just a second and think he was sending it to someone who works for the show? Oh, yeah...
- I'm still not totally sure that Dean saying yes to Michael ISN'T the right thing to do. It really depends on how they end this season. I simply can't fault Dean for trying it.
- The opening scene with Zachariah was entertaining. I'm glad he's dead, though. The character was just TOO evil, to the point where I never rooted for him or really enjoyed his appearances very much. He never seemed to learn anything, never tried a different approach with Dean, and quickly became a one-trick pony. It also got tiring hearing about how worthless humans are. Yes, Zach, we know, you hate humanity. Harp, harp, harp, just like a broken record.
- I get why Dean thinks Sam is going to give in to Lucifer. It's not like Sam didn't just SAY IT himself last week, when he admitted that the only thing holding him together and keeping him from saying yes is Dean. However, it really hurt to hear Dean say it. I want these boys to stop FIGHTING and get back to the good times.
- And just why would Sam EVER say yes to Lucifer, even if Dean said yes to Michael? Did he not learn ANYTHING from last season? Never mind, I said all this last ep review. Just, WHAT?
- Okay, I am the first person to say John, you were a bad father, but the way they've been harping on it the last few episodes has gotten annoying. Jesus, lay off the guy already. I thought Sam had made his peace with John's parenting, and now he's backsliding, telling Adam that it was BETTER that he didn't have John in his life constantly? Seriously, can the writers get on the same page here? This aspect of the writing is feeling inconsistent now.
- I think Kripke is a little too in love with his extra Winchester brother idea and is going to keep foisting Adam on us until he's officially dead again. I remember when asked about Adam during season 4, Kripke got really defensive about it and just wanted the fans to give him a chance. Well, whatever, I'm kind of meh about Adam and could do without him dying and being resurrected over and over. If they were going to have a third sibling, it should have been since the beginning of the show, or done in a more clever manner. The way things are now, I would have rather seen him die again and stay dead. I can, however, understand how Dean couldn't let Adam take on the role that was meant for him because that's just SO DEAN.
Aw heck, I have to admit it - I would like Adam better if he had either been played by someone who doesn't look so damn dopey, or a sister. I've always loved the idea of Sam and Dean having a sister, although I'd prefer that she have been there since episode one.
I mean, Jake Abel seems like a nice kid, but he seems to spend most of SPN with his jaw hanging open, like Zachariah said - slack-jawed. Duuuuuh.
- Why does everyone's life have to be so damn depressing? So Adam had a lousy life too, or at least feels that he did? He's been dead for a year, but hasn't seen his mom in Heaven yet? What? (Does time in Heaven move really slow while time in Hell moves really fast?) God, show, lighten up.
- Did Sam and Dean bury Adam's burned out husk in a shallow grave or something? Eep.
- I was amused with how when Castiel leaves a room now, it causes wind and blows papers around. Has it always been like that and we just didn't know because Cas wasn't leaving such a cluttered room before? You can thank Bobby's packrat tendencies for that bit of knowledge.
- Loved the Cas/Dean throw down, of course. Castiel repeatedly shoving Dean up against a wall cannot be bad. It's good to see Cas get so mad and stand up for himself. That shows PASSION. Why don't you kiss him instead of beating him to death!
- Cas got half naked, YAY! When he took the tie off, I was wondering what he was up to. Not sure how much danger he's in, unless he got blasted back to the same part of Heaven as those other four angels. Angel thrown down in Heaven, woohoo!
- That was sort of lame, Adam bumbling around too much to make it out of the Beautiful Room before the door closed. It makes me think we're going to see him again. They were definitely leaving things open for it. :P
- Oh, forgot to say, an actual FEMALE angel? Haven't seen many of those. Anna, the one who got killed in the street... and this one!
- Also liked the Beautiful Room being in a warehouse, and it's only there when it needs to be. I wonder if the room is actually in Heaven, and this is just a portal to get there, sort of a placeholder on Earth to make things easier.
- Many, many people like hamburgers and beer, Zach. It's not really that unique a taste. And it's not like the table was laid out with many dishes Adam could choose from and he chose the hamburger. Silly angel.
- I thought only an angel can kill an angel. Maybe angel vessels can kill them too? Or you just need that knifey thing? OOH, also liked that the knifey is a boxcutter when it's not a knife. Really, the idea that only an angel can kill an angel doesn't hold up at all. If that's so, then how have demons killed Castiel's brethren in the past? He said there had been battles in which his brothers had been killed near the beginning of season four. Confusing.
- When Dean suddenly told Zachariah that oh, wait, there are some conditions first, did anyone else think SIKE! GOTCHA! AHHHHHHAHAHA! Nice point, that Zach is just as expendable as the humans he runs into the ground.
- Dean telling Bobby that he's not his father -- OUCH. Just ouch.
- As much as I bitch, I did love the ep for the self-sacrificing angst and the anger and hurt between Dean and Castiel.

The spoilers for this episode were annoyingly deceptive. I wonder if that was done on purpose. Would anyone really use the word "sacrifice" for what Castiel did? And it was said that "Castiel will make a sacrifice so Dean doesn't have to say yes to Michael." Did those two things seem to be related at all to anyone? Cas did what he did so they could rescue Adam from the Beautiful Room. Even Castiel said he didn't have much faith in Dean making the "right decision" and saying no. Then there was the latest spoiler that said, "Someone will die, someone will make a sacrifice, and someone will take on a new role." Zach died, Castiel made this supposed sacrifice, and... I got nothin'. Didn't see anyone taking on any new roles.

I haven't heard many spoilers for next week's episode. I have a general idea what it is about, but that's it. Must be filler.
