Random Micro Movie Review so I can get the email I sent myself out of my inbox:
Prom Night: I don't understand why "Prom Night" is considered such a classic. I guess because it was one of the very first slasher films. It's SO BORING. Nothing happens for forever and then more nothing happens and then people get killed after farting around for ten minutes doing more nothing. Nothing and lame disco dancing. The killer doesn't off anyone until the night of the prom, so more than half the movie goes by before anything starts to pretend to happen. Maybe all the excitement is supposed to center around the shocking identity of the killer, which wasn't at all shocking since I had it spoiled for me long ago. Maybe the disco dancing is supposed to be the great part, but it's nothing like the actually good dancing on "Dance Fever," so that fails too.
There's this one scene where this chick runs and hides from the killer for at least five onscreen minutes. Oh my God, so boring. He finds her, she runs, she hides again. Zzzzzzzzz.
My favorite scene (if one can have a favorite scene in a movie they hated) is the one where the murdered guy's head rolled out on the stage, causing everyone at the prom to run screaming out of the gym, and this teacher turns and yells at their retreating backs, "Don't panic!" XD TOO LATE.
Premonition: I thought this movie was based on a foreign film, but it's definitely not the one of the same name from Japan, so I don't know, maybe it's not. Anyway, I LOVED IT. I understand why people say it sucks, but I can't say why because it's a big spoiler. And the movie does have some holes in the plot, but the story and the way it's done are so good that I can overlook the problems. The basic premise (which isn't a spoiler since all of this is in the promo synopsis) is that a woman (played by Sandra Bullock) is told that her husband has died in a car accident. The next day, she gets up and finds him standing in the kitchen, alive. WTF, says she. Was it all a bad dream? The woman proceeds to live each day around her husband's car wreck OUT OF ORDER, and can only use the knowledge she has gained in the days she's actually lived in each day. Someone may come to her on Saturday and try to talk to her about a conversation they had on Friday, a day she has not lived yet. So everyone thinks her husband's death has left her mentally disturbed. Sandra is VERY GOOD in this role; it's very believable that she's a wife and mother doing her best to make it through these horribly confusing days. I loved watching her figure it all out in an attempt to save her own sanity, and possibly her husband.
