A little pow-wow

sailorhathorMy "Supernatural" peeps, I'm a little unclear on some details from 5.20 "The Devil You Know" and I could use some opinions and clarification.
I make tapes of all the episodes so I have a reference until the DVD's come out and I can rent them from Netflix, but I can't imagine which junk tape 5.20 is on right now. So I was hoping to get some opinions on the following things from someone who can rewatch the scene concerning these events.
Okay, what we know is that Brady was Sam's friend at Stanford, and at some point he introduced Sam to Jess, and was possessed by a demon to keep an eye on Sam. What I'm a bit confused on is the sequence of events. What makes the most sense to me is that Brady introduced Sam to Jess, and then was possessed some time later. If Azazel thought that Sam being domesticated was a bad thing, then it doesn't make sense to me that any demon under his charge would introduce Sam to the girl who would "domesticate" him. But, Sam seemed mad about the fact that Brady introduced him to Jess as if he thought the demon did it on purpose just so he could have the pleasure of killing her later. So how did it really happen? Was Brady possessed before or after he introduced Sam to Jess?
And do you think Brady is his last name or his first? I kind of like the idea that it's his first name, but I know that guys sometimes call each other by their last names as a nickname.
Edit: Nevermind. I found the tape the ep was on and they lay the timeline out pretty clearly.
