Jul. 17th, 2010 01:32 pmI've been good. I deserve to indulge myself.
Casting Spoiler for "Supernatural" season 6 under the cut.
SPOILERS FOR SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL
Since you clicked the cut, I am assuming you know about Sam and Dean's third cousin, Christian Campbell from seaon 6. When I heard that he'd been cast and it was actor Corin Nemec, I squee'ed so loud they probably heard me in the next county. I've been a fan of Corin's since 1989 - him being on one of my favorite current shows is a dream come true. ^_^
Of course, I know nothing about exactly what kind of character Christian will be, except that in the casting notes, he's described as good at what he does and "condescending." (When I wrote the following, it was still July. Of course, now I know exactly what kind of character Christian is.) It's pretty safe to assume from things that have been said that he will be a hunter - squee #1. That'll be awesome. (Yes, he is a hunter.) Squee #2 - "condescending." AHAHAHAHAHA! So he and Dean will probably square off with various biting quips. Again, sounds AWESOME. *Happy squee dance* (Yes, they are currently at odds, exchanging insults each time they see each other.) What I hope is that they'll be at odds at first, but gradually come to like each other and feel more of a family bond. I don't want Christian to be like the new Bela, though; there's definitely a fine line the writers shouldn't cross. I hope they learned their lesson. There's only so far they can go with any character and getting the better of Sam and Dean too much. (What I'm hoping at this point is that they'll just develop Christian beyond "the generic asshole who says insulting shit to Dean" so the blind fangirls will stop wishing for his death without knowing two things about the character. We've learned that he is married to a woman named Arlene and they've been trying for a baby for ??? amount of time with no success. He's been a hunter probably all his life. He has a chip on his shoulder where Dean is concerned, probably because Dean left the hunting life and was reluctant to return. So far, Corin hasn't had much to do, and that's a crying shame, because he's extremely talented and underrated. I for one want to learn A LOT more about Christian before they kill him off, and the writers probably will unless they do something to make more of the general populace of fangirls like him, because they're already calling for Christian's head. 9_9)
Anyway, Corin's a terrific actor, and I have a great deal of faith in him to pull off such a role as someone who will be snarky and annoying to Dean. (I am also at this point hoping for more grey areas than purely evil areas where Christian is concerned. Corin can do evil VERY WELL, but he does grey EVEN BETTER.) He's played a great range of roles over the course of his career, from comedy to drama, from the hero to infamous serial killers, from sit-com to classic sci-fi to B-grade Sci-Fi Channel monster movies.
If you would like, you can view the following pics in gallery style HERE.
I first discovered Corin in the mini-series I Know my First Name is Steven, in which he played real life kidnapping victim Steven Stayner.

I was 16 at the time; Corin's about 16 months older than me so he's a young pup here. I thought he was so cute and talented.
A couple years later, Corin played the title role in the sit-com "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," which went on for 3 seasons. It was incredibly innovative for its time, with jokes that stepped outside reality in this really surreal way. For example, one of the members of Parker's posse, Jerry, had a trenchcoat full of useful stuff that could simply never fit inside the coat, like a shredder, a guard dog, and a frozen yogurt keeper. Another example I can remember also involves Jerry, where he fell in love with Parker's sister Shelly (Parker's GREATEST ENEMY!), and everytime she kissed him on the cheek, he would literally go floating up into the air to the sound of tweeting birdies. It was great. XD Parker sits up in bed with the feeling that something monumentally bad had just happened in the universe, and then you see Jerry go floating by his window. XD The third season kind of lost its way a bit (Jerry lost the great coat, for instance), but it was still pretty funny most of the time.

In this pic, Kubiac hugs the shit out of Jerry (see the coat?), Parker, and Mikey. This was about 20 years ago; Corin looks a bit different now. No crazy shirts on Christian.
I just realized, TRENCH COAT. XD Castiel needs his trench coat to become magic! (jk!)
Here's a pretty standard, recent pic of Corin (with any of these pics, you can click it to get the big version):

I don't really like this spiky hair on him. It's accentuates the fact that his hair is thinning. The clothes are cool, though. He seems to like camouflage.
More generic pics of Corin.

That's quite the Ward Cleaver outfit he's got on here. XD I like this hair.

A better shot of the Ward Cleaver getup! He looks like a 1950's ad for cigarettes.

Hee!

I'm not entirely sure which movie this is from, but obviously it's YOUNG CORIN! What a cutiepie. ^_^ (Thank you
corkynemec9i14 for telling me that the movie is Foreign Correspondents.)

OH BABY. I LOVE this long hair on him. (This is from a Sci-Fi Channel monster movie called Sea Beast.) I wish Christian would get this hairstyle, but I don't think he will since recent pics from Gate-Con have Corin with short hair. :(
If I can't have the long hair, I'll take the next best thing - Mansquito hair!
.
Mansquito is another Sci-Fi Channel monster movie about a guy who is turned into a giant mosquito by some sort of chemical virus thingie. Corin plays a cop in this. He's SO HOT. I mean "Laurel makes many happy UMF noises of appreciation" hot. Tom (Corin's character) is so gentle and loving and sweet towards his girlfriend, it just does THINGS to me. THINGS, I TELLS YA! I love a protective man! UMF!! BABY!
.
UMF!!!! The Swoop!!! I LOVE when Corin's hair gets swoopy, parted on the side. He should always wear it like this - makes him look younger. And it's cute as hell! I hope Christian's hair goes swoopy at times.
A few random pics.

.
#1: Say what? Corin butt!
#2: I love this kind of gun holster. It's sex-aye! I hope Christian uses a gun holster like this at some point.
#3: This shows how far gone I am, that I think it's sexy how Corin puts on his shoe here. He's slipping into a dress shoe while looking back at the girlfriend. HOT! THINGS TO ME!
And now, a SEX SCENE!!! *Rapt attention*
.
.
.
.
.
Could I see this with various SPN characters next, please?

Hee! This image cracks me up. Tom's laying back, enjoying Teh Sex.
Tom's gf has been infected with the mosquito virus, so during their lovemaking, she begins to find him very tasty.

Mansquito vision! (Or, Womansquito.)
.
The gf scratches Tom, looking for his sweet, sweet blood. Oh, and the image is SEXY. UMF! Lovemaiming! XD
My favorite part about this scene is Tom gets a phone call, interrupting Teh Sex, and before he leaves, he acknowledges her love bite with a kiss and a, "Damn, baby." XD

Something I'm sure we'll see a lot of on SPN, Corin looking disheveled, upset, and bloody. (The first couple pics here look shitty because they're from a bad copy of the movie, but when I tried to retake them from the DVD, I kept getting blurry images. I'll try again some other time.)

Pics from Chicago Massacre: Richard Speck in which Corin plays mass murderer Richard Speck. I didn't take a lot of caps from this because Richard Speck was very pockmarked and as a result, Corin had appliances on his face that make it less cute. :(
.
.
.
I have such a weakness for a good Southern drawl. Here's hoping Corin gets to do it again in another movie where he's not playing a mass murderer so I can, in good conscience, find it sexy as hell. XD
A couple pics from Ted Bundy: Legacy of Evil:
.
Corin likes those tough, gutsy roles, including playing serial killer Ted Bundy. The movie addresses how truly sadistic and pathetic Bundy was as a person. I don't want to make light of the true life events or anything, but I had to laugh as they recreated Ted Bundy as much as possible, down to his horrible 70's wardrobe. I mean, look at that second pic. Bundy really wore that. I have to wonder how the man got actual tail. A turtleneck and a sport coat? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Just for the record, I LOVE this hair on Corin (which I touched on earlier).

Fish heads, fish heads, roly poly fish heads. Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum, bu-ding.
(I couldn't resist.)

Halfway through the movie, Corin's makeup wears off and we see how he's really let himself go. Oh Corin, no, baby, you just need a little concealer here, and... this is the sea beast? Oh. ^_^;;
(I couldn't resist that either.)

Hee, I love catching silly shots like this. Popeye!
A couple extra shots of Corin with his movie daughter. Awwwwwww!
.
Pics from Summer of Fear, a TV movie from the mid-90's when Corin was still in his 20's:

Corin's character uses a gun in this movie! It's young Christian! :D
.
.
That's about all I have for now. I'm sure I'll be babbling about him all season. \o/ I wish Christian wasn't a spoiler character at this point; I'm so excited, I already want to make challenge claims with him and request fic about him and I DON'T EVEN KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIM YET. XD I'm cuckoo for Christian Puffs! (Of course, now he's been on the show and I can make all the claims I want, hee!)

Corin on SPN. Christian is very confused.
And then there's thiiiiiiis!
spn_christian
Yes, I am enthusiastic.
EDIT May 2011: Well, now that it's all said and done, I have to say that I'm woefully disappointed with how much the SPN writers wasted Corin's talent. They could, and should, have done so much more with Christian, really given Corin something to do, but it turned out to be a pretty small part. I'm glad Corin was able to do something with that character for the short amount of time he was on screen. Of course, I'm still endlessly fascinated with the idea of who Christian really was, but the character wasn't developed enough to win over many fans. If the writers killed Christian off to please the fans who wouldn't give him even an iota of a chance, fuck them.
Yes, I'm bitter. Here Corin was, on my favorite show, and his character and talent were wasted. It's unlikely he'll be back, so that's that. :PPPPPPP
