In all the chaos, I forgot to say...

I FOUND THE CD-RECORDER MANUAL!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO WOOHOO YIPPEE YAHOO HOORAY WOO!!!

It was in a very weird place that I never would have thought to look - with my scrapbooks. Okay, whatever, Laurel. Putting it with the other manuals, no, that wouldn't have made sense at all.

And then the recorder stopped working properly. -_-;;

For some reason, it won't record from CD to blank CD the normal way, but I did get it to work by analog recording where I attach my boom box to the recorder and play/record that way. Ahhhhhh... my need to make mix CD's is appeased.

During the week that I was packing the last of my stuff and getting ready to move on July 31, Ms. Parker (new apartment manager) had heard that the electricity was going to be cut off on the 29th. I was frantic because all of my stuff would be in my old apt until the 31st, and people were already looting and squatting in the vacated apartments. Ms. Parker called a woman she knows in Code Enforcement, Cheryl. Cheryl said they would take care of it; there were still people LIVING in a few of the apts who would have no electricity after the 29th. We thought yay, problem solved! Turns out all Cheryl did was call the crooked apt manager of my soon-to-be-former residence, Elaine, and tell her, "There are still people living in those apts. Pay for another week of electricity." And Elaine said, "Oh gosh, I'll certainly do that, Cheryl!" Of course, it turned out to be a lie. Elaine didn't pay for shit.

Lucky for me, I had asked my brother to take my mattress over to my new apt so I wouldn't have to sleep in the hellhole anymore, and he did, on the 27th. Ms. Parker and I went over to my old apt on the 29th to look through some things I was leaving behind (scented candles and dollar store junk) and someone comes by and knocks on the door. It was a COP. He informs us that the electricity is due to be turned off at midnight that night. O_O Wow. We were freaking out. I thought for sure people were going to descend on that building once all the lights were out and loot the fuck out of it, including all my stuff. Apparently, the police were also afraid of that happening, because they took good care of my former residence. Not only did they do patrols all night AND keep a police cruiser parked across the street, they had a POLICE HELICOPTER circle the building with a SPOTLIGHT for at least half an hour after midnight. I was shocked but VERY HAPPY with that!

Eventually, they boarded up the entire building and then put a fence around it. The courts are now fighting over who gets the building. The city wants to tear it down, the bank wants to refurbish it and sell it to a new owner for renting. I'll say this - after what I went through there, I'll never move back. My new apartment is tons better, so I'd be a fool to ever go back anyway. I'm hoping they tear it down and put up a Pizza Hut. XD
