[livejournal.com profile] oc_bigbang needs artists pretty badly. If you know anyone who does art/manips/so on, please steer them in the direction of that community. (In other words, my story hasn't been claimed yet. AGAIN. :P Yes, I know it hasn't even been 24 hours, but there are more stories than there are artists.)

I'm curious and want to gauge national reaction to something, because I'm actually in Dallas and it's hard for me to know what's going on outside this area. Have you guys heard of this police brutality thing that happened here on September 5th? If you Google "dallas police brutality september," the dashcam video is the first link that comes up. I've seen the video. The police were wrong. There was no reason to handle it that way; the guy was giving up and all they had to do was get him on the ground and handcuff him. But instead, they chose (even beforehand) to beat him. They were angry and got out of control and that's that. Another cop turns one of the dashcams away from the scene later on, and he's in trouble too, as he should be. Many of the cops involved behaved outrageously. One cop has already been fired and the others are being investigated. The Dallas police are handling it very well, IMO.

What I want to know is, have you guys even heard of this case? Has the video been all over your news? Would you consider that this video has gone "viral"? Because my local news is having a shit fit over it and it has officially gotten on my nerves. According to them, the video is being watched all over the country and everyone is talking about it; they talk about it like it has reached Rodney King video notoriety. I haven't found this to be true even in Dallas. People are interested, but most seem to think the cops are handling it well. It really isn't being talked about much. I remember when the Rodney King thing happened, I did hear people talking about it in the grocery store, the post office line, at college, etc for weeks. Not true with this story. But according to the news, there could be riots in the streets at any minute! Just as soon as one thing isn't handled well, the streets will be full of fighting and looting! It's like the news WANTS people to freak out and start rioting. It's really making me mad. It's like they're trying to GOAD people into it. I don't even know how to describe it, it's just the way they word their stories; it's all very, "The rioting is inevitable, get started now!"

So anyway, I wanted to know if their view of things was at all true.
