Random tings

sailorhathorPlease to provide the help if anything comes to mind - I'm trying to come up with labels to stick on characters based on their roles in the story. Such as, The Relic, The Catalyst, The Offering, so on. There are a couple that I know have just the right word to describe them, but those perfect words will not come to me. Symbolism is okay.
1. A person who has a great deal of potential, who goes from being a nobody to being somebody after working hard at a goal. A contender. (That word doesn't work because it's too much like another label I've already decided on.)
2. Someone who constantly sacrifices for the happiness of others, but not "Martyr." That word doesn't really fit the image I'm trying to create. I may juggle around "The Offering" and "The Sacrifice," although if another awesome word comes to someone, I'd rather have a different one.
Words must be awesome and mysterious. :D Suggestions would be peachy keen.
Random criticism: The Quickstep is the stupidest looking dance ever. Why do they make people do it? Your feet are going crazy while your arms are perfectly straight; oh yeah, what a great idea. ¬_¬ It's ridiculous! If they permanently took that dance off DWTS today, it'd be a day too late for me.
More random. A quote from an article about Skeet Ulrich that came out today:
Ulrich was born Bryan Ray Trout in Lynchburg, Virginia. His parents split up early on, and when he was six, he says his father, a hotel chef, kidnapped him and his older brother, Geof. They spent the next three years moving from Florida to New York to Pennsylvania. Eventually the brothers were reunited with their mother in North Carolina, whereupon his father disappeared.
Whoa, holy shit. Kidnapped?! I didn't know that. I don't think he's ever talked about that to the public before. Wow. O_O
