My thoughts on Supernatural episode 6.07, "Family Matters."

SPOILERS FOR SUPERNATURAL EP 6.07 "FAMILY MATTERS" AHEAD

Decent ep, although I'm still confused about some things.

- Family Matters... does that mean Zombie Urkel? :D
- Let me just get it out of the way. CHRISTIAN, NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
- The clip for this ep already spoiled the fact that Sam is missing his soul, and I've already reacted to that. I just have to say that I was amused with Sam's reaction to Castiel taking off his belt; what did he think Cas was going to do? I was also amused with Cas manhandling Sam while examining him. He's so adorably clueless.
- People with no souls don't need to sleep. That's interesting. I don't think I've heard that one before.
- I want Dean to stop being so mean to Sam. I know that he needs some time to get used to all this new info they've just found out, but it's not like Sam can help it. It's not like he lost his soul on purpose. I get that for the last couple eps, Dean wasn't even sure Sam was really Sam. But Dean still seems so ready to give up on him. I miss the Dean from past seasons who wouldn't have acted like that toward his little brother, who wouldn't have given up so easily. I want them to get back to being brothers again. As I've said before, I get that conflict takes time, and I'll keep watching and waiting, but that doesn't mean I won't complain about it. :D
- Although, Sam and Dean did work together in this ep and that was great to see! More of that, please!
- I wanted someone to make the Simpsons joke about Sam selling his soul to a kid named Milhouse for $5.
- Castiel's true form is as big as the Chrysler building. Er, okay. I don't like that. I suspect he might've been exaggerating. For me, it's not that angels are huge, but bright. If angels were really that big, then many, many more people would have seen Castiel when he visited the diner in 4.01. Many more people would have been blinded by his various visits. It's a bit impossible to sneak around, circling your vessel, when you're that big. It seems more like a one-off "Haha" kind of comment that he made to get back at Samuel for what he said than anything that was supposed to be taken seriously.
- Castiel to Dean (paraphrased): "As always, your needs come first." Go stealthily sarcastic Cas! I suspect there's going to be a confrontation between Dean and Cas sometime soon over how Dean's been acting toward him, expecting Castiel to be there the second he needs him, when Cas has his own problems to deal with. I hope Castiel gives him hell; Dean deserves it. He often treats Cas like his own personal weapon and source of information instead of a being with his own life to lead, and sometimes he needs to be reminded that Cas isn't just sitting there waiting until Dean needs him.
- It bothers me that the Campbells seem to have an unending supply of family members to pop on screen and get killed five minutes later. I get that it's a horror show and people are going to die, but they're supposed to be related, and we never see any reaction to them losing someone. It's like oh, another cousin died, oh well. It's unrealistic. There's gotta be someone in that camp who knew the dead guy really well who actually mourns him.
- People seem to die by neck breaking a lot on this show. Yeah, it's an easy way to off a character, but it's gotten boring. XD
- Okay, now to Christian. Somehow, I knew they were going to kill him off, but I didn't expect it to go down that way. O_o
- Why do I love it so much when Dean and Christian face off? That whole scene was just AWESOME and I don't even know why. I don't even like Hate!sex, but during that scene, when he got under Dean's skin and Dean slammed him against the wall, I was chanting, "Hate!sex! Hate!sex! Hate!sex!" Especially when it didn't even phase Christian, and he made that chuckley little noise of contempt. XD I guess I liked it so much because Corin actually got to do some acting!
- Why was it so comical when Christian was sharpening the axe? It made me laugh, just the way he was doing it. I have to wonder if Corin wasn't doing that on purpose.
- Oh, and Corin looked GOOD in this episode. Come to Mama!
- Oh oh oh, I almost forgot when Sam and Dean came in, and Christian was all welcoming to Sam and then went, "Dean." And Dean responded, "Neuman." AHAHAHAHA! That was cute.
- I have to wonder why Dean never asked Christian what his problem was after all the shit Christian gave him. I mean, I know Dean probably didn't really care, but as long as he had to work with this guy, it would have been nice for them to air their dirty laundry.
- As soon as things got quiet and Christian's just standing there conveniently framed in a doorway, wondering if the vampire left, I knew he was dead. Here comes the vampire, he's going to pop up behind Christian and yeah, there he is. And now he's broken Christian's neck, oh, I didn't see that coming. (Yes I did.) :P
- Aaaand, it turns out Christian is possessed by a demon. Well... I didn't expect it. I guess that's something. One thing that tells me is that Christian is always a bit of a jerk, because no one noticed him acting any differently. XD
- I do hope that Christian will be back in some capacity, even if it's as a possessed guy. Otherwise, I don't think they realized what a great talent they had there and they just wasted Corin on a throwaway character they barely developed. That would be a shame.
- I wonder if the demon who possessed Christian knew Dean while he was in Hell, in some capacity. He always spoke to Dean like he knew many things about him. Now, you could assume that Sam told him about Dean, and maybe he even told Christian about Dean's time in Hell, but I still have to wonder if the demon didn't already know some of that stuff.
- I thank Mitch Peleggi for putting some actual emotion into his voice when asking what happened to Christian. It's good to know someone cared about the character.
- I still want to meet Arlene. Seems unlikely now.
- It was great that Gwen got some development. I would have preferred that Christian get the development and Gwen turn out to be possessed, but good, that they're actually going to develop her if they're going to keep her around.
- The alpha vamp was cool. :) Not sure I get why vampires go to Purgatory when they die. Do they get punished for all the people they've killed there? I don't know, feels like something the writers came up with on the spur of the moment.
- The ending was quite surprising and a little confusing. I think I got it, though. Since Lucifer got put back behind some sort of seal (the cage), Crowley's gotten a big dick and thinks he can not only conquer Hell, but Purgatory as well. (Does anyone else think that may blow up in his face at some point? I mean, he's never struck me as the CEO type, but someone with delusions of grandeur.) Michael is trapped in the cage with Lucifer and Sam's soul is in there too. So Lucifer and Michael probably beat each other about the head every night WITH SAM'S SOUL! (Maybe I just like the fun mental pictures of Sam being used like a baseball bat.) Is Adam trapped in there too? I think Crowley brought Sam's body back to Earth? Am I right about that? Samuel made... some sort of deal... with Crowley that we don't know anything about yet, and he's now working for Crowley at a job it seems Crowley could get done better using demon labor... and Samuel was brought back to life... by someone... Crowley? Okay, I'm still a bit lost. It would help if I could record and watch the episodes back.
- The story feels a little cobbled together at the last minute, but I kinda like it. I like that Sam and Dean are forced to work for Crowley for now until they can find some other way to get Sam's soul back. If only they'd known what was going on back when they had Crowley's bones to bargain with...
- Hey, why didn't Bobby tell them that Crowley is the King of Hell now?
- Oh, but wait, we've still got the side story of Heavenly objects being stolen from Heaven, out there wreaking havoc on the world. I kinda like that plot better. Will the two plots somewhere meet? That'd be cool.
- The only good thing about the lack of development for Christian and Arlene is that I can write my own stories about them and pretty much build them from the ground up, which I like to do, but it also means no one will read the fucking stories but me and my beta. :( Still, I can work with this demon possession thing. Canon or AU, I can still write some enjoyable fic.

I got I Know who Killed Me from Netflix on a lark and expected it to be funny bad, but it wasn't as awful as I thought it would be. Has anyone ever written a Supernatural version? I mean, it's still a Lifetime movie plot, but I could see it working well for Sam and Dean in some capacity.

I've got bronchitis. It started Sunday. This morning, I couldn't get enough breath to speak. Pbbbbt. Dumb changing weather.
