My yearly Yuletide squee
Nov. 10th, 2010 07:55 pmOne of my medications is making me a bit light-headed right now, so instead of replying to every comment, I will just say THANK YOU to everyone who gave me well wishes on my last post. Thinking back, I'm actually a little surprised at how fast this lastest bought of bronchitis went from not much to I CAN'T TALK AND BREATHE AT THE SAME TIME. It's upgraded!
My arms still hurt from the shots. Wah the big bad doctor hurted me mommy!
And now, YULETIDE BLATHER!
yuletide signups start soon! The organizaers put up a post asking for corrections and whatnot and I was amused with at least one listing I had to correct:
[RPF - Bon Jovi => Bon Jovi => Music & Bands]
Alec John Such
David Bryan
Hugh McDonald
Jon Bon Jovi
Richie Sambora
Sting
Tico Torres
Teehee! As much as a Jon Bon Jovi/Sting story might be enjoyable to read (for me, anyway), Sting has never been a member of Bon Jovi. XD I wonder if someone was trying to sneak that through and I rained on their parade. I see that RPF - The Police was not nominated, but seriously, if you want Sting to get Tantric with various members of Bon Jovi, you can just put that in the specifics of your request, silly. ;D
The only thing that really worries me about requests I might make is this:
[Little House on the Prairie (tv) => Little House on the Prairie - Laura Ingalls Wilder => Books & Literature]
Almanzo Wilder
Cap Garland
Caroline Ingalls
Carrie Ingalls
Charles Ingalls
Grace Ingalls
Harriet Oleson
Ida Brown
Jenny Wilder
Laura Ingalls Wilder
Mary Ingalls
Mary Power
Nancy Oleson
Nellie Oleson
Percival Dalton
Rose Wilder
Um... no. The books did not have all of the TV characters; several of those were made up for the TV show. I pointed this out to them in hopes that the two fandoms will be separated again. I mean, I nominated LHotP (TV) and no one nominated the book fandom this year, so combining them and confusing everyone could be detrimental to me getting anywhere near the story I want, considering all my favorite characters either weren't in the books at all or were only mentioned in the books. The majority of Yuletide people in the past were only willing to write the book fandom. If the fandom is presented this way, we'll have a bunch of people offering to write it and then going, "Huh?" when I request stories about Nancy Oleson or Nellie/Percival. Which clearly isn't fair, since again, the books weren't even nominated this year but the TV show was (by me!). What's the point of me requesting this fandom if it's sketchy whether or not I can get what I want out of requesting it?
No one's responded to my comment. I'm going to be patient and assume this is because they're fixing it. The mods are clearly overworked, I can see that. :)
Also, last year, there were several stories in the Laura Ingalls Wilder Books category that were clearly based on the TV show. Maybe this is why they're combining them? I know it's nitpicky of me, but I'd rather they not be combined, and I'm sure there are many book fans that feel the same way. Or is it just that people really do love the TV show and want to write for it, but don't want to admit it because of pressure from the books-only snobs? (I'm sorry, I'm not directing that comment toward all LIW book fans, just the ones who are snotty about the book to TV show comparison.)
Anyway, so I don't forget, I'm going to make a list of fandoms I can potentially request and then narrow it down once signups open:
Miracles
Little House on the Prairie (TV)
Scream movies
Paranormal Activity
The Uninvited
Degrassi (almost forgot that one!)
I may just offer to write Degrassi and not request it, though. It's hard to explain, I'm just not sure I'd ever get what I want there. I seem to have good luck with writing it, though. Somehow, Degrassi: TNG snuck through too. XD
Not sure about "The Uninvited" either. I think the movie is just so obscure that I'd be wasting my request there. Meh, I don't know.
I've got a couple of new, really nice ideas to request for "Miracles." Again, not sure I'll get what I want because my favorite type of "Miracles" story is a Miracles/Supernatural crossover (esp with slash), but all I can do is try.
I considered nominating "Law & Order: Los Angeles" because of Skeet, but I have NO idea what I'd want out of a LOLA fic, so I said MEH and forgot about it.
I'll be really excited if I get something I desperately want and did not expect!
