I said I'd talk about what the trip to Florida on Greyhound was like, so that's what I'm gonna do!
First off, I really need to buy a big suitcase on wheels, because the trip down to the bus station was painful. I had a backpack, rolling backpack, and a suitcase that I had to carry, and the suitcase was heavy enough to make my arms ache pretty bad. And the distance I had to carry it wasn't really that far! Ugh! I was really wishing I had sent everything in the suitcase ahead along with the other two boxes of clothes I mailed. Next time I take a trip where I need to bring along a lot of clothes, I'll try to do that.
On the way from the train station to the bus station, a panhandler saw me struggling and offered to carry the suitcase to the station for me. I gave him a few bucks for doing it, and I was glad for the help. I had to keep stopping along the way because of that suitcase. My bus wasn't leaving until 3AM and I got there about 9PM, so I had dinner and read a book for a while. They make decent hamburgers at the station. People kept talking about how service had been cancelled into many states because of the snowstorm last week. I knew that if we just left on time, we could beat the sleet out of Texas that was supposed to hit Dallas around 7AM. Still, everyone was being very pessimistic, saying that they were probably going to cancel my bus "just in case." Now mind you, none of the people who were saying this were official Greyhound reps, just the security guard and other customers. I kept up hope that they wouldn't cancel my bus since the route we were taking wasn't being hit by snow/ice, and like I said, Dallas wouldn't be hit until long after we left.
At around 2:20, I moved to a table closer to the gates in anticipation. About ten minutes later, they said my bus was boarding at gate #3! Yay!! I was so relieved. I sprang up out of that seat, grabbed up all my bags, and rushed to the gate. We left almost on time and totally beat the ice storm that fucked up Dallas a few hours later.
It rained non-stop from Dallas all the way to Atlanta. I always have trouble sleeping on the bus, and although I totally died from about 5AM to 9AM, that was just about all the sleep I got on the whole trip. Greyhound impressed me this time around; they kept the bus relatively on schedule and were very organized, and kept me well informed of when to board the next bus or reboard.
I had the seat all to myself all the way to Atlanta. Then the bus got very full from there to Orlando. This is where the trip got a little miserable for several hours. First, they had the heat turned way, way up in the Atlanta station, to the point that I was sweating. Then the station was wall-to-wall people and I had trouble getting through with all my stuff. Annoying. The guy I sat next to from Marietta, GA to Orlando slept like the freakin dead. Almost nothing woke this guy up. I envy people who can sleep like that on the bus. I couldn't sleep because my body started to betray me - after a certain amount of time sitting in the same position, I have to get up, shift my position, something, or my legs and hips start to hurt. In this case, my right hip joint began to ache something fierce. Because I didn't have the seat to myself, I couldn't shift around much and my hip just hurt and hurt for the next three hours. At one point, I turned sideways into the aisle for a bit to shift my position, and later when I turned frontwards, the heavy sleeper was leaning over into my seat. The guy was leaning all over me and I couldn't get him off. I started shoving his head with my arm and he wouldn't wake up! XD Finally I shoved him hard enough to get him to lean against the window instead. It's one of those things that is annoying while it's happening and funny when you tell the story later. XD When we got to Orlando, we had to deboard the bus so they could clean it, and that guy still wouldn't wake up! He slept through the announcements over the loudspeaker and everyone else leaving the bus. XD I assume the cleaning crew woke him up; I was too annoyed with the trip at that moment to try.
The trip from Orlando to Ft. Pierce was a little better, as I had the seat to myself again. I fell asleep about 20 minutes before we arrived. XD I awakened just as we were pulling into the Ft. Pierce Love's Truck Stop, and I had no idea where we were. For a second, I started to panic. Had I missed the stop in Ft. Pierce? My watch said it was 11:42AM, which is just about the time we were supposed to get into Ft. Pierce. I realized that we were pulling into Ft. Pierce, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Sammie and her mom were there to pick me up. I was extremely glad to see them, and to be at my new home. ^_^ Sammie and I gave each other a big hug.
I'm adjusting well to life in Florida. Sometimes I still think that Sammie and I can go to the movie theatre in Northpark Mall, or that we can just get on a DART bus and go here or there, and then I remember I'm not in Dallas anymore. It'll just take some time to get used to the fact that those places and things are over a thousand miles away now. We've got tons of great shopping places within only the first mile from our apartment - McDonalds, Wendy's, Wal-Mart, Staples, Bealls, Little Caesar's, Panda Express, Chase Bank, Friday's, a movie theatre, a storage company, the list goes on. I'm still discovering it all. It's extremely nice to have a friend to talk to and spend time with anytime I want. Sammie and I are having a great time hanging out. I only wish I had my DVD's here right now so we could watch them together.
I'm hoping to save up to bring my stuff here somehow and put it in storage down the street. At least then my stuff would be only a short walk/ride away. Sammie's apartment is too small to store everything I own (unless we want an unsightly pile of boxes all along one wall), but I could have a bookcase for my DVD's and a few other things. In the future, we want to get a two bedroom apartment.
I'm having trouble getting Paint Shop Pro installed on this computer (Sammie lent me her laptop to use). I'm going to keep working on it, but I need to do that soon, because I've got graphics to make. In the meantime, I CAN PLAY FARMVILLE AGAIN!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I missed my stupid little fake farm all those months that the game stopped working on my old computer.
I'll end this post by wishing
deejay a speedy recovery. She's currently in the ICU with blood clots caused by a botched up gall bladder removal. You've gotta be a pretty incompetent fucktard to screw that surgery up. *HUGS for Deejay*
