Sep. 29th, 2011 02:53 pmYaaaay! Both pieces of art that I made for
spn_reversebang have been claimed. ^_^ I can't help it, I'm always happier when my work isn't the last piece to be claimed. I'm excited to see what my claimees will write for my prompts.
Those of you who have been around for a while will remember that I moved out of a building on this same block last year after the building was foreclosed on and taken away from the owner, who simply abandoned the property. Ever since then, the property has been boarded up and fenced in. I don't know when they're going to do something with it; as far as I know, the place will be torn down, but it's probably tied up in the courts for the time being. I know the city wants to tear the place down. Well, I found out after I moved out of there that some very seedy activities were happening in the empty apartments before the place was closed down. Basically, when people moved out, the manager did nothing to fill those apartments again because she knew the place was going to be foreclosed on (would have been nice if someone had told ME). So, even though this is a very safe city, any place has a seedy underbelly. Drug dealers were taking over some of the empty apartments and selling drugs out of them. A guy was pimping out a hooker from one of those apartments. This apartment was only three down from mine! Turns out my apartment was the only one that was occupied on my side of the building for at least a couple months before the place closed. I'm glad I didn't know at the time because it would have scared me to know that! Also, remember sometime last year when I mentioned that a drunk girl had been sitting out front of the apartment next to mine and asked to use my phone? She was one of these drug addicts who came there to buy drugs, and stayed all night doing drugs in that apartment. Things that she said on the phone didn't make any sense until I knew what was going on three doors down.
Anyway, the other day I walked by that building and saw that people have been breaking into it again. Some of the boards over the doors had been pulled down and the doors kicked in. I really don't like this. I wish they'd just tear the place down already if no one is going to buy the building and turn it back into a place for people to live. Once I can afford to move, I'd like to get off this block and into a more modern apartment anyway. I consider this my "transitional" place. :)
