A couple of examples. One, "Law & Order: Los Angeles." It was decent and had a really hot leading man. Then they killed him off to replace him with some ugly guy. Halfway through season one. Yeah. What the hell?
Another great example would be "Xena." It was a really great show for about the first three seasons, then totally lost its way when Gabrielle lost hers. It was like the writers were desperate to make changes and have the characters "grow," but they made all the wrong changes. Then there were multiple time jumps and more stupid, drastic changes that just ruined everything.
What would I have done differently? Keep Skeet on the show and develop his character. Rex had a great background to build upon and a fun buddy relationship with his partner. More of that. As for Xena, Gabrielle would have taken up the staff again within two episodes and the whole "Xena gains the power to kill gods" storyline wouldn't have ever happened. God, there are so many things I would have never done on that show that it would take several more paragraphs to tell it all.
