Day 2: Something new
I don't really have anything new right now. The last fic I wrote was for Yuletide at Christmas, and I wouldn't consider that new. Lately, I've been working on the rewrite of She Just Wanted to Be Heard to try to make it an original work. There have been tons of changes. I had to juggle around the names of characters. There were a few names I never liked that much to begin with, and one I'm changing because my high school friend Melissa told me her publisher asked her to change her lead female character's name because it was "too weird." Danica seems like a name that might be deemed "too weird." I still kind of like it, but I also like the name I decided on to replace it. And if I give Danica a "normal" name, maybe they won't harass me about Quinn. There's just something about the name Quinn for a guy that I love, and it fits him really well. I will fight for it if I have to. (Besides that, many kids now reaching their 20s were born during the weird name phase of Ashers and Tylers and Caitlyns, so it wouldn't make sense for all the kids in this story to have names like Jason and Ashley.) I'll trade them one weird name for every normal one! :D Never liked Darcy's name, so it goes (she was named on a whim). Gunnar's name must be changed because I want to have a Gunnar in another story and there's a joke there I simply must do, so this Gunnar must become someone else. One of my ghosts wants to be Amy, which means the minor character named Amy must be renamed. Dean and Sam can't be Dean and Sam anymore. Their backstories have been completely gutted. They have very little in common with Dean and Sam anymore. Since the ghosts can't all have names that start with S now, lots of names had to be changed there. So, I guess that's my new thing - tons of new character names!
