Before you post, you see the ring
Dec. 22nd, 2003 09:23 pmDear Incredibly Painful Leg Cramp,
Thanks for waking me an hour before I was supposed to get up. I really liked losing that hour of sleep writhing on my bed and whimpering like a puppy, trying to massage or stretch you out until you finally went away. It was ever so fun. I soooo enjoy having to limp around and climb the stairs like a 2-year-old for hours afterward. Eat me.
Love,
Laurel
This morning I was doing some searching on amazon for various "Ring" dvds, and I found these interesting facts:
-The cursed "video" is available as an easter egg on the DVD. Select look here and press down and your cursor will disappear. Press enter. This has an interesting feature; your remote control is disabled. Once the "video" has started playing, you can't stop it, pause it, fast-forward it, or return to the menu. Unless you turn off the TV, you're forced to watch the whole thing. When it's over, the DVD returns to the menu, then you hear a phone ring twice before you're given control over your remote again.
When I read this, I got the most wonderful chill up and down my spine that was so strong, my eyes watered. So is this like the original Japanese release where it plays the *entire* cursed tape? Like, all the way through Samara crawling out of the well and walking toward the camera? If so, I AM NOT WATCHING THAT ALONE. If I have to die, someone's dying with me. ~_^ YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
But that Easter egg is SO FRICKIN' COOL.
Also:
To promote this film the studio placed copies of the mysterious "killer tape" at concerts and events that included a like to a fictional web site www.anopenletter.com which led to several other fictional sites. After the movie was released these fictional sites were take down and the studio denied ever doing the promotion.
HA! They can deny it all they want, but I know it's true because I HAVE one of these tapes. I blathered about how much I loved "Ringu" on the SMII board, and about how DreamWorks was promoting the American remake by leaving evil tapes all over America in random spots. About a week later, an online acquaintance meekly said, "Um, someone was talking about the promo tapes being left around America? I found one on the campus of PSU." I was like O_O GIMME! It creeped him out to the point that he didn't want to keep it, so he sold it to me for $10. Muahahahaaha!
I heard that at least one person found one of these tapes inbetween the panes of her window!! O_O Ohhhthatissogoddamncool. Once I got the tape in the mail, hee, it's so silly. I put it on a pile of stuff and just let it sit there for at least 2 weeks because I COULDN'T watch it. XD I could have totally gotten screwed and I didn't even know it because I was too scared to check. (One of these days I am going to write my own reviews of these movies so people who were not scared will understand why these films scared me so bad.) I had to wait until I could get Nancy to come over and watch it with me. XD Then, a week later, I made her come over at the same time so that if we were going to die, it wouldn't have to be alone. XD (She was coming over anyway...) But of course I knew I wouldn't die, because I had copied it for Kaye! XD XD So just Nancy would die and I'd go to the mental institution. Woohoohoo it's funny what a grown person will be afraid of.
Funny thing is, there's an image on the tape that Nancy and I could not make out at the time, of Samara reflected in the mirror. Because she had her hair over her face, it was hard to tell it was a person. Nancy thought it was a "large, black-cloaked, hulking figure." ::shudder:: I had nightmares about that, and it wasn't even correct. XD HE WAS HIDING IN MY CLOSET!
