Writing meme that I saw on [livejournal.com profile] kalliel's journal. I'll try to come up with ten things, but it will probably become difficult at some point. Ten things are a lot! :D

1. Ten things that you think are common in your fic
2. Ten things you think are uncommon in your fic although commonly found in fic in general
3. Ten things you wish were more true of your fic.

1. Ten things that you think are common in your fic

1. Sex. :D I like writing sex.
2. Ellipses. ... They just work for me much of the time, and give sentences and dialogue a certain look that I find satisfying. Dramatic pauses, people stopping to think, someone is panting while trying to speak, ellipses are good for all of these instances.
3. Decent, realistic dialogue. I've been told many times that I write good dialogue that sounds like how people really speak.
4. Elements of the supernatural and horror. I love writing both. They fascinate me.
5. Hurt/comfort. I am not afraid to hurt my characters if the story calls for it. The best part is people taking care of the one who's been hurt and the angst of possibly losing them. I also enjoy the "feverish confessions" trope where the hurt person is feverish or delirious and confesses things they normally wouldn't say.
6. Uncommon/obscure pairings. That's why no one reads it. :P
7. At least one character who likes something that I do. I'm a bad nerd. I don't care much for most of the things that other nerds do (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc) and it bothers me when that's always what characters in fic like. I want to be able to relate to my favorite characters at times too. So I made Sam a fan of MST3K, Paul Callan a watcher of "Little House on the Prairie," and so on.
8. Strong, sassy, funny women. These are the women I like reading about, so it's a natural that I like writing about them.
9. Ideas that take chances. I love to challenge myself and for people to say that the resulting plot was "unique." Sometimes people don't get it, other times they love the idea just for being different.
10. Families that love each other beyond words. I used to have that, then my parents died, and now I have to look for love in other people, many of them not related to me. That's why even cousins may be extra close in my stories, because I wish I had that loving family around me again.

2. Ten things you think are uncommon in your fic although commonly found in fic in general

WARNING! FRANK SEX TALK AHEAD!

1. Finger prep for anal sex. You see it in most anal sex fics, but it isn't necessary to do every time, so my characters don't. I read this "writing sex advice" article written by a gay male years ago who said too many fic writers put this in even when the two men have been involved and sexually active for quite some time. The muscles back there loosen up a bit after repeated sex. Once that starts to happen, some form of lubrication is enough. The finger prep thing is simply no longer necessary unless the person on the receiving end simply likes it.
2. Pupils blown wide by lust. I just... there are much more exciting ways to indicate sexual arousal than noticing someone's pupils have become larger. No offense to anyone else, it just does nothing for me personally and I think it's used too much. And the pupils are always "blown wide" or "lust blown." I've never seen it described any other way. Again, no offense, but it seems like someone wrote it that way, and many others liked the way it sounded enough to use it verbatim. At least, that's how it seems.
3. Long, eloquent descriptions of people/things/locations. I hate describing things. I especially hate the "long paragraph describing how beautiful my OC is in one fell swoop." I'd rather drop in some description here and there until you get a good picture. Sometimes, I've chosen a live action model for an original character, so I'm like, "Here's the picture. Look at it so I don't have to describe this person. I'm lazy!" Then I have to go back and force myself to drop in the description. I think part of this is because my imagination allows me to imagine characters or put in a celebrity face to represent them, so I assume anyone can do the same thing and doesn't need me to describe them. It's lazy, I know. That's why writing requires discipline.
4. Popular pairings and crossovers. :D I have obscure taste, I can't help it.
5. Stories where absolutely nothing supernatural happens or is discussed. It's my favorite thing to write about. It seems to sneak in almost every time.
6. Ummm... errrrr... yeah, that!

3. Ten things you wish were more true of your fic.

1. That they didn't take so long to write so I could be more prolific.
2. That people who read them actually comment on them more.
3. That I felt more satisfied with how certain aspects of them come out.
4. That I still had the community of fic writers I once had who would comment on my fics and give me feedback and I'd do the same for them. It really helped improve my fic.
5. Ummm errr again.

That's all I can think of. Have fun doing this one, fellow fic writers!
