Let me just say that I like the people I host with, they have good prices and nice cPanel, but they are frickin' morons when it comes to billing. There's something wrong with their email system because they claim they notified me of a problem with my billing 3 times in the last week and a half, and I received exactly ZERO of these notifications. So, they SHUT MY SITE DOWN today. Ooooooh, people no keep Lo-chan from her babies. Nonono, must not do that. Lo-chan get maaaaaaad.
The problem was that the address I gave them for the account (PO Box) was not the same as the address on the check card (home), so they refused to run it through. Well, eureka! I don't want just anyone getting my home address through my domain, Einstein! But apparently, I have no choice if I want to use this check card, so I would have gladly changed it if I even knew about the problem to change it! Instead, my site becomes suspended today. I just got it fixed, and the sites are working again as of five minutes ago when I checked it. So WHEW, no one at goofy webhost gets stomped today. They better be happy. But I am TIRED of this. Everything better go through okay from here on out. Now I feel like I have to watch them like a hawk every three months to make sure my invoices get marked paid each time, and if they don't, I am sending them a support ticket nagging them about it. This is not happening again!
It would be such a total pain in the ass to move my sites again. I've got about 100mbs of stuff on my sites currently, and I'm about to add more. Do you know how long it takes to upload that much stuff? And there's no guarantee that a new webhost won't have the same billing problems; there's no way to tell ahead of time. I just think if this were my fault somehow, why would some of their mail get through and other mail not get through? That sounds like a problem on their end. Just to test it, I'm going to activate one of my yahoo mail accounts, and give that to them as my secondary email contact. Then we can see if it's aol's fault I'm not getting mail from them (like these notices they claim they sent), or their fault.
But man, I hate scares like this. It's like if someone kidnapped your pet and held it for ransom. That's what it feels like to me (and I have pets, so I think that's a good comparison). My sites are VERY important to me. They're my major creative outlet.
The thing I hate most about this is that I announced to at least one yahoo group today that people could go to skeetulrich.net and sign up for the mailing list so I could notify them when the site opens. People might've gone to sign up and gotten this "this account has been suspended" notice. MAN that's frustrating. >:( I hope if they did that they'll try again.
